Pay more for private no paperwork sale?

While it sounds nice, folks tend to put a little too much faith in 'ending the paper trail'.

The only way you can really end it is for both parties to be complete strangers.
Exactly.

In a FTF transaction with a stranger I give no information and I ask for no information. Swap money and gun and walk away.
Been doing this since about 1960.
I once even bought a HK P9S from a unknown Houston Policeman, in a McDonald's parking lot, at night. I have no idea what his name is and he doesn't know mine.:D
I once sold a gun to a Catholic Priest when I was a Policeman. That's all I know about him.

Follow the laws of your state.

Only if it was a firearm that I really wanted and was unable to locate through normal retail channels. I would not pay any premium to buy an off the record weapon, no reason to. I should note that I own several handguns that were legally purchased/acquired before before firearm sales became the production it is now, and record keeping was not as strict as it's now.

Everybody ought to have one cold gun. (And a registered one of the same caliber for when ammunition control is resumed. Yes, we had ammunition control for a while after GCA 68, sign for your bullets.)

But there is not much call to take it beyond that.

From AlexanderA,
"gun confiscation in the U.S. is highly unrealistic and far-fetched, especially now that we have constitutional precedent that gun possession is a fundamental right."

McDonald was a bad ruling, incorporation doctrine is very dangerous. The bill of rights were not intended to apply to the states, just read them....Congress shall make no law...We are now one liberal Supreme Court justice away from a national gun ban.

^ not exactly IMO, However I do share your concern about the number of Justices and thier views.

Rights are delegated to either the federal governement, States, or to the people. All rights not delegated are by default to the people. The Bill of Rights lists those rights held above any government, given by God (Explicitly not "Given" by government....IE not something given therefor cannot be taken) State laws must be subject to Federal laws, the most supreme federal law is the Constitution. Where this gets confused is when the federal government restricts something that it has control of, the state law can generally be more stringent than the federal, not less. Therefor some people incorrecly believe the State can make laws more restrictive of the federal government in other areas. This is not so. No government under our constitution can prohibit Free Speach, Freedom of the Press, Assembly, The Right to Keep & Bear Arms, etc.... This "View" is furthered by the 14th amendment after the Civil War.

I dont dispute that the ruling should not have been so close. To me it is clear and obvious that the court did get it right, it should have been much more decisive decision, IMO.

Man,,,The O.P.s original question just smacks of an ATF sting question,,,,
Expanding the question,,,
Would you buy a gun off the black market, no questions asked by either party?

So what if it is? Private sales are legal as long as the parties are residents of the same state and neither is a prohibited person.

Nah, I'm afraid I'm already on too many lists...

Especially after posting on this forum for the last five years or so.

I'm probably about due for a Rendition date.

I have no particular preference as far as buying from a dealer or private party. I usually pay LESS with a private party purchase. However, I do record whether or not the form was completed for a purchase.

The state/local sales tax has little impact as far as my decisions go. I generally support my state and paying sales tax or not is not a reason to buy in state or not, or dealer versus private party. There was just an article about internet sales and how many states are looking at a way to collect this tax on sales. I think it is a national govenment deal as I believe the states are powerless to do this by themselves. There was a Supreme Court decision in 1992 (Quill Corp vs Northa Dakota). Quill sells or sold office supplies via mail order.

I can be a paranoid as the next guy, but what about a question starting with Assuming it is legal in your state (casual sales between individuals of guns is not legal everywhere, some require an FFL dealer handle the transfer, etc.) sounds like a sting?

And exactly what makes the black market black?

Would I buy a gun from a person I knew was a criminal whom I knew obtained the gun illegally? No.

Would I buy a gun from a person whom I did not know, and whom I could not verify obtained the gun legally? Yep. Several times.

I'm sort of paranoid so if I can do a private transaction than I'll take that any day, even if it's A LITTLE bit more. It is legal in my State as well.

When the 'hand in your guns' comes (whether it's our lifetime or our children's) I'll hand over everything registered in my name with a smile :)

i bought a hot gun before(didn't know) now if i can't get a bill of sale with his DL# we don't deal
Just a little cautionary tale that many will choose to ignore, or refuse to even consider.
I've got a feeling there are a lot more folks out there that have purchased stolen guns than want to admit (and some just don't want to ask questions).

Given that i have a CHL and have bought many guys from a FFL i just don't see any value as at this point as there is no way i could prevent the MIB from knowing i own firearms.

Unless a store has some sort of in house warranty there is no more warranty buying a used gun from an FFL than there is from an individual.

Price and convience rule the day for me. In WV the paperwork takes about 5 seconds. Approval is fast and I am out the door.

When I sell guns FTF I ask for ID I create a bill of sale etc... I do not require one when I purchase from an individual.

in my state, ALL handgun purchases are REQUIRED to have a paper trail. so that is a mute point. long guns however, require no paperwork when purchased from an individule. but i would not pay more for no paperwork on a long gun.
