The local tire guy wants 25 cents a pound for wheel weights. Is that high??

i shoot mostly Oregon Trail Laser Cast and lubed bullets. have found my time more valuable than casting bullets as i used to do.

however, when i come across some free wheelweights, i cast them into ingots and store them in the barn. never can tell when lead bullets will become non-PC. a ton of lead, and i have more than that, will make around 58,000 240 grain bullets or 88,000 158 grain bullets, as an example.

i fully expect these ingots to ingest some moisture somehow, so will be cautious and always start with a cold pot to liquify them and stay away until that has occurred. molten lead eruption makes a horror story if one is closeby.

yep, i am hoarding, but, you never can tell. EPA is on the march.

I get a bucket or two for a box of donuts or cookies from the local bakery. The tire shop guys love to see me.They even have the young kid who works there load them into my truck for me.

Dont pay for WWs. If you look in a few different garages/shops, they`ll happily give them to ya for free.

Chek around the different tire shops, Les Swchab if you have one, I am sure that one of them will give you WW.

Happy old sailor, youare sooooo right about the moisture in your lead. I was given around 200 pounds of lead ingots and somehalf rounds that had been used as fishing weights on a longliner. when I put them into the lead pot, I always make sure to stand well back, as the lead melts it will start to "boil." was standing to close once and got splashed with a very little hot lead. Still have the scars on the back of my hand!!

My wife has had great success in getting me WW's for free. I don't know why but they don't seem to be suspicious of her like they seem to be with me. They also don't really question her what she is planning on doing with them. Every other month or so my wife comes home and says I have something to get out of the car. It is usually a couple of 5 gal buckets full for me to turn into ingots and then bullets.
