I am trying to find a peep sight for my Savage 24-V .223/20ga. Any and all ideas under $100? I am too old for the orginal V rear sight and I do not want to scope it.
Can you install a scope base? I'm not sure if the 24V is drilled and tapped, like my 24F is. If so, there are aperture sights that will attach to the base. Depending on the height, you might need to add a taller front sight.
I got a small pipe nipple (1/4or 3/8 forget which) and cut the threads off. Then I cut a slice out of one side lengh ways about 1/8 inch wide so the piece now had a "C" shaped cross section. You can open the C up with something tapered and a hammer. (Those cheep Chinese snipe noses just stick them in the pipe and wack em in). If you remove the extractor you can slide this piece on. Before you do that drill and tap two holes for a Williams sight and a couple more for the little screws thatplug up sight holes. Slide this on the barrel with some gorrilla glue under it and just snug all the screws without the Williams sight in place. pLet it dry over night then mount the sight. The front sight will probably be too low. I filed mine off and made a shorter version of the sliced pipe, d&t it for an 8/32 nylon screw which makes excelent front sight and can be trimmed to the desired hight. I call these doodle bug sights.
