i dont know if this has been asked before and if it was i apologize

anyway

I have a golden state arms model 1947 (sporter mauser 98) in .30-06, it is drilled and tapped and has weaver bases on the reciever. I do not like scopes and i shoot much better with iron sights. The gun has factory iron sights with a gold bead up front and a flip up blade not unlike the one found on a standard 10/22, but it is broken

I would like to put an aperture sight on it, as i have tech sights on my 10/22 and i love them

my question is, what is a better sight for a 30-06 for use on deer and hogs in florida?

i found both the xs ghost ring with a .300" aperture and the NECG weaver mount peep sight with .093" and .125" disks

i want something that is both fast while at the same time allowing good shot placement out to 200 yards plus or minus

any help would be appreciated

Peep, Ghost Ring same thing just different hole sizes...

Speed requires a wider view; accuracy smaller...

I don’t own any of the “Ghost” size apertures but I’ve shot a lot of them on friends’ rifles…

I'd be comfortable with the XS sights to 100 maybe 150 yards, great for the likes of a lever .30/30...Close cover gun, fast acquisition, MOA = minute of animal…Damn good sights!

I have a Williams on a few of my rifles but that style was all that was available at that time, 30+ years ago and they have worked very well on deer out to 150 to 200 yards but are a “little” slower to acquire quickly but offer better accuracy…I truly love them but I'd switch to a wider aperture on some of the levers as they're only 100 yard gun…

Another alternative is a Holographic/Red Dot scope which work extremely well but require a small "dot" for distance work, lots of 5 or 6 MOA to 10 MOA coverage at 100 yds covers lots of the animal and twice that at 200 yards and they are a lot more expensive...Some require batteries but you get 10K hours on a hearing aid battery...

Some Alternatives:
One Ragged Hole - tried and work real good
MOJO - Very nice sights
HexSite - never tried only read the favourable review

Iron Sighter - See through scope bases
Millett - Good products
Skinner - Primarily Marlin sights but good info

Get a good receiver mounted Peep sight and just leave out the peep disk for those quick and close shots, that is basically what an XS sight is. then you can put in the peep disk and be able to shoot very accurately to well over 200 yards. Also get a Merit adjustable peep disc and you can adjust the hole to the size required for the existing light.

Williams use to make a ajustable peep/gost site that you screw into the existing peep mount so you can have both with just a twist . Go to midways book or maybe williams home site.
