I bought a savage 11 hog hunter 308 with Iron sights, I have read of folks upgrading the iron's on it so I was thinking of either going with ghost ring rear or peep sight rear I am going to keep this iron's no scope I do like the A2 type duel aperture sights
any opinions on this from what I understand the hog hunter uses the same front sight as their scout and I can install the same peep sight the scout uses I also seen a picture of another that had a ghost ring sight, pro's /con's of the peep/ghost ring or a idea of a duel aperture type ?
thanks all

I have an opinion on what's better for hog hunting, for what that's worth. I take it you are talking about installing a rear iron sight on the receiver to replace the V sight on the barrel? For most hunting that you would do with a handy rifle like that, I would go with a ghost ring rear sight. It makes for very easy acquisition and situational awareness and, if you have some familiarity with ghost rings already or spend some time with it, you will likely find that it greatly facilitates rapidly getting on and staying on targets, especially targets on the move. I have Williams aperture sights on several rifles, but when hunting with them, remove the aperture disk and use the disc housing as a ghost ring.

thats exact what im thinking removing the v sight , the picture I seen had the ghost ring in place of the v sight but I would prefer to mount it on the receiver
here is the picture of what gave me the idea, not mine but same rifle unnamed.jpg unnamed (2).jpg unnamed (1).jpg

I have similar experience using Williams rear sights with removable apertures. The apertures work fine at the range when sighting in or shooting targets, as long as the light is bright enough and the aperture diameter chosen works with the available light.

But as soon as the light dims or I'm standing in a bright area and aiming into a dark area, I have to unscrew the aperture and go "ghost ring" mode.

I'd definitely get the Williams sight that comes with an aperture and just remove the aperture when needed. It's more versatile than just a pure ghost ring, IMO.

On the other hand, I like the idea of a dual aperture flip up sight, too. I just don't know of one that fits bolt action rifles without some customization required.

For me, a receiver mounted ghost ring/aperture is superior to a barrel mounted aperture all day long. I've had barrel mounted apertures on mil-surps. I went back to the regular leaf sight in both instances. Although, I never tried a fiber optic barrel mount aperture like that, so . . . maybe it would be okay?

I like that idea the william's peep and having the option of removing the insert , I would really like the duel aperture A2 flip type but not sure it could be done with out costing an arm and leg ,
