Pendleton Safes--anyone heard of 'em?

I got one. Bishop version delivered by Mark's Outdoors simce it took forever to get a reply from Pendleton (I hope their customer service is not as horrible as their marketing department). It's a great system with adequate storage and lighting. I opted for a non-motorized version.

Only problems so far are: the holes for the long guns are too narrow for some milsurps (such as the Garand and FN49); and the electronic lock becomes "sticky" meaning you have to firmly slap the turn lever closed and reenter your code.

Overall I'm pretty satisfied. It's a sturdy, compact storage solution.

I think that about sums it up as far as my opinion goes. It's an interesting product that serves a specific need. It's not really designed to be a high security safe, although its round shape does lend itself to being more resistant to certain types of brute force than typical safes made from similar materials.

I looked at these at the NRA convention this spring. Good looking safes, and convenient access. Steel was pretty thick. Main drawback was no fire resistance available... but there is insurance if your guns burn up if I remember right.

Pricing was more like $2,000 - $6,000 if I remember right. They are made in USA, and I want to say they were constructed of 1/4" steel. Insurance is for $50,000 worth of loss.

Honestly, theft is my biggest concern followed by fire. The lack of fire protection is a huge negative IMHO.

personally, I'm more concerned with theft.

I'm a fireman, and if (I realize this can be a big IF) you live in an area with a FD with a fast response time, the heat is not really a huge issue. You may have smoke issues, and that can be serious, yes.

I have mine in a room with an exterior wall and window, so whomever can get water on the box if needed without much hassle. But, I live in a neighborhood, with a hydrant across the street, and a professionally manned fire station 8 blocks away.

We all have different challenges to deal with. Each challenge comes with it's own benefit.

Its a novel design, but I keep more than just guns in mine. The door is the large enough to let plenty of light inside, and I don't need power of any kind to operate my safe.

Gotta love good old American Ingenuity, If there is demand (clearly there is), free market will provide an option.
