You can't make this stuff up.....

Now for the what caliber or should the penguins get CCW........

Professional snipers have been brought in to guard a vulnerable colony of penguins in Australia.

The deployment follows the mysterious deaths of nine of the furry, flightless birds over the last two weeks.

The mutilated bodies of the animals, known as fairy penguins, were found in a national park near Sydney harbour.

The main suspects are dogs and foxes. At 40cm tall, the world's smallest penguin species is clearly no match for such aggressive enemies.

To even up the fight, two snipers have been deployed as bodyguards.

They have started night patrols and have instructions to do what it takes to protect these tiny creatures.

They have joined a legion of volunteers, who have also been guarding the birds during the hours of darkness when they are most vulnerable to attack.

Traps have been also been set in a concerted attempt to catch Sydney's penguin killers.

Police these days have snipers, .50 cals, Armored Carriers and are trained to knife fight.

***?

Where do you get a job where you get to lay out in nature all night with orders to shoot at will against an enemy that isn't really trying to kill you. I mean you could just go out there, fall asleep and get paid. Then claim whatever was is just too fast or something.

I suppose that is why the look for people with some kind of work ethic. Not everyone is looking for a way to cheat the system.

On the other hand, if they didn't have any effect on the penguin killings, I'm sure they wouldn't remain on the payroll.

Ummm, anyone have a link to an application?

I like penguins!! (I like dogs too, but if they are "wild" they can really screw up the local environment and should be treated like any other varmint)

I dunno, I work at UPS.. I could technically dump all my packages into the river and say they were stolen. ::lightbulb above head::

Seriously, some people actually work, even without being directly watched.

what do they do if the animals doing the killing are a different protected species?

i think their heads explode.

on the other, other hand, if they stop the penguin killings, they will still be out of a job.

Penguin murders prompt sniper aid

I read that all wrong...

I thought a sniper somewhere had an assistant (aid) who showed up on time (prompt) and was killed by a penguin.

That might have made an interesting story too though.
