Could we just all not speak as if we are authorities... If we are not. To me it's like someone who speaks strongly and then breathes in rapidly though their nose... As if putting punctuation on their grandiose "I are smart" statements that are full of bull. Just enough knowledge to be dangerous, I say.

Ok... this is the revolvers forum. Do you have something related to revolvers that you'd like to say in a non-authoritative way?

:)

Perhaps we need to pass a test of some sort prior to making statements. Or, those who pass the test get some sort of authority icon next to their name. Like a square graduation cap with tossel type symbol.

Please no spelling or grammer tests as I don't need a dunce hat icon by my user name !

To be serious I understand that there can be some pretty off the mark stuff that comes into some postings but I see no way of stopping that. Nor do I feel annoyed if I know better. Nobody knows it all and even very accomplished folks can make a mistake . I don't see a problem .

And we know you're an authority on this because....?

I am not a Doctor, but I play one on TV

I hold this forum in high regard, THIS IS MY OPINION.

I love collecting firearms, THIS IS A FACT.

I FEEL (an opinion) if everyone would use a modicum of restraint before stating something as a FACT, this forum would be more useful.

:banghead:

If there were a "WHINY-BABY" category for discussion, I would have put my comment there. The Original Post was born of frustration while researching the history and features of a particular REVOLVER.

...with all of the AUTHORITY vested in me (none), I now pronounce me... Uh... Cathartic.

Since this is an off topic general rambling we'll end it before it gets any worse.

There's a little problem here, Harry.

Many people aren't posting their facts as though they're authorities. They're trying to help, and some of them are laboring under misinformation themselves. They're going on something that someone whom they trust or regard as knowledgeable has told them.

i.e. The cyclic rate of the German MG 42 was so fast that there are 3 bullets in the barrel at the same time.

i.e. John Browning corrected his mistakes on the 1911 when he designed the High Power.

A whole list can emerge with a little thought.

If you hang around long enough, you can figure out who knows what they're talkin' about and who doesn't...who is offering an opinion and who is offering fact.

And, of course, you'll find a few who believe so strongly in their misinformation and opinion that they'll argue it until pigs fly...even in the face of evidence that refutes it.

Relax. Don't take it too seriously. It's just the internet.
