My wife and I were talking about her potentially carrying pepper spray, and we both thought it would be a good idea for her to practice with it the way she'd be carrying it. That would probably involve her being able to deploy and use the spray while being hassled, probably by me. We have a great local range for things like this.

In order to do this and make it realistic, I'd probably have to be wearing something akin to chem warfare gear, unless I feel like washing out a lot of pepper spray. This made us think- does a trainer exist, maybe filled with water or something similar? I suppose we could just use a small pump bottle full of water, but it seems like finding a trainer that exactly replicates what she might carry would be better.

Anybody ever heard of such a thing or have a better suggestion? Thanks.

Hmm. ASP Defender products, just off the top of my head, have reloadable cartridges. They have the 'real' stuff and then test catridges, which I imagine are just filled with water or what have you and make a bunch of otherwise harmless mist so you can see how the thing works.

My wife and I train with Vexor spray. They make training units that are identical to their live units. I also know a few other brands make inert training units as well. They make training and target practice much easier than acutally getting hosed down with the stuff.

I recommend everyone who carries pepper spray be hosed with it at least once or twice so they know what they are carrying and in case the wind changes direction.

Almost all of the manufacturers have an INERT training model in the same sizes they sell live pepper in.

I just picked up a few ASP key Defenders for my wife and daughter. I also picked up the inert cartridges so they could practice and get a feel for how the spray pattern would be.
