Does anybody have any recommendations of pepper spray. My sister is looking to get some for my college age niece. I'm kind of leaning toward the kimber pepper blaster.

Depends on where you want/how you want to carry it. Anything 2% OC should work though I understand that Sabre Red is only 1.3%. I was hit with the 2% foam in academy and it took a few seconds before the effects kicked in but once they did it was fairly incapacitating. If you use a foam be aware the effects will likely be delayed. If you get a liquid type you might want to avoid the "cone" type as they allow for more blow back and require you to be closer to the offender. I'm thinking about trying the Sabre Red stuff in the liquid pocket clip cannister...

The 17% stuff like Cold Steel's Inferno (I think that's what it's called) etc. is gimicky IMHO.

Here's a video of the pepper blaster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMmBCSvSaPo

It looks like it works pretty well, but the unit is large and might not always be carried. But the spray is effective. Also you'll notice in the video the range is very short...13 feet and the guy had a few seconds to run grab a bottle of water, etc. Overall it looks pretty good.

I would look at SABRE Brand from Security Equipment Corporation. They have a 3 in 1 formulation that I can truly say works very well. The 3 in 1 burned hotter faster and more intense than red pepper only sprays. Sabre key Chain units also have 25 bursts to a range of 10 feet. Good stuff I carry it everyday.

Fox 5.3 that is what I got hit with. I ended up with chemical burn on my cornea in my eye and a bad sun burn around my eyes that **** sucks. It was for traning at the county.

I have Sabre Red. I have had Fox. I think the foggers are very effective (having inadvertently gassed myself just a little doing some training when the wind shifted ). Would also appreciate other suggestions.

I'm kind of leaning toward the kimber pepper blaster.
Lean away! I would NOT recommend the Kimber pepper blaster.

They sold an inert training version, so I thought I'd try one (I put some glasses and a T-shirt on an IPSC target). Found that it is very aim-dependent, and very difficult to aim. Pfft. Missed high. There were a few pin-point droplets on the cardboard away from the glasses and t-shirt, but the bulk of the spray just sailed by. Very different from the pattern you get if you use a fogger.

Pfft. Missed again, but low, so got the t-shirt. Cardboard underneath was dry. Distance was about 6 ft (claimed "effective range" is 2-13 ft). No more shots, so sorry!

Also, note this warning:
The PepperBlaster® products may present a risk of eye injury if used at a distance of less than two feet.
Transaltion: spray this at your attacker and he can claim you used it closer than 2ft, and sue your for his injuries.

Just saw this, thanks to another thread: Ruger Pepper spray site. Haven't tried any of them.

For what it's wroth, I also believe the Kimber Pepper Blaster II is an effective personal defense tool. It points easier than the original pepper blaster. The Pepper Blaster is highly rated both in street use and in gun magazines.
