I'm on a college campus and this means I'm not allowed to defend myself except with pepper spray. What brand should I look into? (I want a *tiny* bottle; the only uses would be extra reach before my box cutter/knife (against the r00lz oh noes!) came into play against the next guy trying to beat Cho's high score)
 
My wife carries FOX somthing or anouther, guy at the gun store says it burns hotter then anything on the market... she has a 2 oz can... it plenty small.. i'd go with OC personally... you should get you some of that..

I'm in the military and I had to get sprayed to carry it.. and let me tell you it is the worst stuff in the world..
 
The most leathal is Counter Assault. For grizzly's. says not to use on humans! I say this so you can research thier site for the chart reguarding percentage vs volume vs spray pattern ect. and thus make a correct analogy with the human varity . :confused: www.counterassault.com

Are there legal ramifications to spraying people with it?
 
I would check local laws. There is legal issues with shooting people,stabbing people and passing bad gas in a Starbucks lounge area so do your due diligence. it seems 2% is max allowed bylaw according to thier web site.
OC spray works when used correctly but is no replacement for a 3 sec 100yd dash or a 2" .50 S&W. (Just kiddin) :rolleyes:

Using commonsense and awareness of surroundings is best for avoiding most "ignorant victim" problems.:cool:
 
As an OC Certifying Instructor, I generally reccomend First Defense X2.

I have used it quite abit in the field, and have gotten most satisfactory results.

The students seem to dislike it quite a bit more than any other brand I have used as well:evil:
 
OC= next to worthless. You have to carry a pen for school right? Carry a nice strong one and a flashlight at night. Don't trust your SD to a stop and watch toy.

do you mean its worthless in general or just for sd in school?
OC is almost the best item i carry but thats is just because i dont want to just stabb the first thing i do to try to defend myself. i spray first does that not work (of some reason) or stop the attacker then my knife or baton is allready out.
 
In my research I have not been able to find very many stories of citizens being using OC to defend themselves. What there are plenty of are stories about them being used as weapon during robberies.

OC does nothing to stop the mechanics of the attack. I have written about my dislike of OC at length in several places. Next on my list are Tazers, especially for civilians.
 
I'd say that's because in most cases people don't think to use their OC, they just "let it ride"

About 6 years ago a bank robber with a rifle was in the news because the teller pepper sprayed him, (very, very stupid) and it put him on the ground, and he was easily taken out by citizens.

Spray is more effect then you think, it's just people don't use it. People often do not react to a situation, most people get a rifle pointed at their head and the "freeze".
 
Many years ago I was very drunk and I tested some pepper spray on myself. Like 1911RjB said, it is evil stuff. My eyes felt like they were on fire, I was hacking and I couldn't reenter my bathroom for hours because of the residue. If I had been a bad guy would it have stopped me in my tracks? Maybe not, since I was able to stagger into the kitchen and wash out my eyes, but I was seriously impaired and that was just the results of a short blast of the stuff.
 
Just for the record, OC kicks my ass like Bruce Lee. Just amazes me that with all the OC spray that is sold and carried we don't seem to have any stories about people using it to defend themselves.
 
I use foxlabs since i live in the republik of california and getting a cwp is next to impossible. I figure its better than nothing.
 
The reason I carry OC is to get the advantage on whoever is attacking me.


I do not expect it to put them on the ground with one spray.

I do expect it to distract them enough to let me run far away or put my elbow in his ear if he gives chase.
