As much as I like Ruger revolvers, the GP-100 is a little blocky. The S&W 586 and 686 are fine guns that are a joy to shoot but they are not as tough as the Rugers. I shoot my Ruger much more than my S&W because I know they can take it, I baby my S&Ws.

SW 686

I own many handguns both revolvers and autos.
My favorite one is my Smith and Wesson Model 686.
With the long 8 inch barrell it is truely fun to shoot and the accuracy is impressive at 50 yards.

I have a 6" 586 from the early 80s. I have shot plenty of full-power rounds through it without a SINGLE hitch. It is a fantastic handgun: reliable, very accurate and well-balanced. I have the nice goncalo alves finger-groove grips on it that also increases the aesthetics of the gun.

But the 686 is Stainless
and it doesn't look this good

OKAY...
I'm definitely showing my ignorance of revolvers here  but why did you cut off the hammer?

I don't believe that the GP-100 is a DAO revolver so why give up the option of firing it SA by cutting off that hammer thingy (what's that called :banghead: ) that let's you fire the weapon SA?

OH! I really like the slab side look on revolvers...

To eliminate the "hammer spur" (that thingy that was cut off) from snagging on clothing.

Well, I guess that's where we differ. I like a nicely blued gun as much as the next person, but if that's the picture you're gonna pick to compete with the 686's looks, I'll have to disagree... I've seen pics of blued guns that look much better than the 686, but that's not one of them... :scrutiny:

I didn't cut off the hammer on this GP-100. This GP-100 was a French Police revolver that came as a DAO. It had a 4" non-underlug bbl and bobbed hammer. It can not be cocked even if you pull the hammer back with your thumb because the lockwork has been changed by Ruger.

I could have bought a new hammer and sear but Ruger won't sell them unless your gun came that way! :banghead: I figuired that since it already was DAO, I could make it into a nice carry/car gun that would be snag free and small enough to fit where the 4"bbl wouldn't. It was a whime but I really like the way it feels and shoots. It is not a pocket gun but at least now it can be carried concealed if needed.
