I vote for the Model 10,HB, 4" .38 S&W Special!
The gun:sized right to carry easily, the barrel restrains wobbles and recoil.
The Model 10 is a great Pot Meat gun handy to carry, and very accurate for plinking and informal targets! Great all-tons Revolver!
Serves well for personal protection, Hunting, and plain fun!
Lifetime rugged and astern ally attractive.
Ammo is fairly inexpensive, fineally widely available again and in many bullet weights.
It's not a Magnum but it dosen't need to be! Easy to reload if you have a press.

Generally one of the best revolvers ever made'

Depends where I'm camping/hiking. Normally a 637 in Indiana, but could be anything up to a 329pd. Model 10 is a great choice too.

I just handled a new Ruger 3" LCRx w/ adjustable sights the other day that I would look real hard at. Absolute feather weight to carry, plus-p rated, great trigger and very corrosion resistant . If it shoots as good as my snubby KLCR, and I've no reason to doubt it will, it'll be a real winner.

I passed as I would want it in .357/stainless steel frame mode like my KLCR, and I'm guessing/hoping that version will be out before too awful long. Personally, I think that's the gun Ruger should have introduced, though the .38 model is lighter.

I have to agree.

For the money a 3" or 4" S&W M10 makes a excellent do it all handgun especially for camp use. Those 158gr Keith style loads available from Buffalo Bore/Underwood make it even more versatile for woods use, plus the old FBI load on standby for social work.

Sure, stainless and a magnum option are nice but for the money a used M10 is hard to beat.

3 inch GP 100 is the way to go.

Easy to shoot with either magnums or .38 s.

Can strip the gun into parts right in the field.

Rugged as heck to.

I don't camp or hike much. If you're going to camp or hike where a 357 Magnum level of firepower is desirable, wouldn't a rifle or shotgun be an even better idea?

My ideal camp or trail gun would be something so small and light I could forget I was carrying it, like an S&W Kit Gun, an Airweight Kit Gun, a Beretta 71 in 22 LR, or a J-frame sized revolver with good sights in 32 Long. (I really like 32 Long.) Once you get beyond that, it seems to me, you're not camping or hiking, you're hunting.

Of course, I have grown up in Wisconsin, where we have lots of state parks, and not much of the local wildlife is very dangerous, except the deer when you're driving down the highway at night. I suppose it is a whole different ball game in Wyoming or Colorado, where the wilderness is much wilder.

This new Ruger LCRx would certainly get prime consideration from me as a great Kit Gun/Camp and Trail gun. I had a Rossi Model 88 in .38 Special that had some of the same qualities and features of the LCRx in that role. My other choice for as a versatile and reliable Kit Gun would be a semi-auto .22, my Beretta Model 70S.

The revolver that normally rides on my hip, also goes on the trail. That would be a 45 ACP revolver with a 4" barrel. Mine is a converted M28-2.

Well yes. However a holstered handgun is always at hand, whereas a long gun will tend to get leaned against a tree or somesuch as you are building a fire, pitching a tent, answering nature's call, cooking dinner etc, and may not be quite handy enough when the need arises.

I often opt for my S&W M&P .22 compact. It is very reliable, has never malfunctioned yet and is so light you will forget you are carrying it.

Ruger SP101 with Speer Shotshell Capsules packed with #10 shot. Makes for a good snake gun; Box O' Truth guys agree.

Kinda limited to what you can do with a gun on the trail these days. At least unless on your own land. Hunting seasons are limited which makes shooting pot meat impractical, and plinking may or may not be ok. Mostly, my gun is for defense. Incidentally a Model 10 isn't bad in that role either.

For me, it would be a 4" Ruger Speed or Service Six in Stainless. I'd want the fixed sights (hence not putting up the Security Six for my number one) and stainless. But there is no load you would have to avoid, and with the stainless finish you wouldn't have much worry about the elements either. Hard chrome on top of it and you REALLY have an unbeatable choice there.

I carry a shot shell in the last cylinder in my SP. I hadn't unloaded the gun in months and "found" the shot shell yesterday. Considering it's now winter, I reckon I can leave it out.:D
