Does anyone in the world know what "ADL" and "BDL" mean? Inquiring minds want to know.
That is to say that I know that an ADL has the blind magazine box and the BDL has the hinged floorplate, but I don't know what the letters stand for.

ADL indicates the cheaper Remington rifles, BDL the fancier.
Now if you want to know what those letters stood for in the mind of an advertising writer, I can't help.

ADL= Model A, Deluxe
BDL= Model B, Deluxe

The difference between the two originally was that the ADL had a blind magazine, with a simple walnut stock. The BDL had a floorplate with a similar stock, but with a black forend and grip cap offset by black whiteline spacers.

Are you sure about this because I know that Remington makes the standard ADL which has the flat bluing and synthetic stock and then there is the ADL deluxe which has the shiny bluing and the wood stock. I have the ADL Deluxe in 270. This website even shows the "Deluxe" as the wood stock version. http://www.reedssports.com/main.taf?cat=944

The easiest way to distinguish is the blind magazine on the ADL, but it is not the only way. Yes, ADL's have been available with nice wood stocks, but never with the high-gloss AAA walnut monte carlo w/ black forend cap. AFAIK, the ADL's also lack the jewelled bolt.

As for synthetic stocked variants, I belive the BDL's are all stainless guns, while the ADL's are blued or parkerized.

There is also now the CDL, which is basically a BDL, but with an oil-rubbed stock instead of the thick, shiny varnish.

My 700 BDL is not stainless, it is a blued model. I never knew they made the 700BDL in Stainless.

Here is my Rem 700 ADL Deluxe 270 and my 700 BDL 30-06 side by side. I like the wood on the ADL Deluxe better than the BDL. Also you can see the difference between the mags on the two of them (no hinged floor plate on the ADL - note though that I have installed the quick klip on the BDL and removed the hinged floor plate.

The stainless models were never offered with the classic wood stock, only with synthetic stocks.

My .375 Ultra is a stainless/synthetic BDL.

The laminated stocks are more or less BDL's, but are classified as LS, LSS, VLS, VLSF, etc.

I have a 1970 ADL with a jeweled bolt. As stated in other posts the differences are the hinged floor plate and the forend tip and grip cap
