Houston Chronicle today. Clay Robison reporting.

Gov. Rick Perry said Monday that Texans who are legally licensed should be able to carry their concealed handguns anywere, including churches, bars, courthouses and college campuses.
" I think it makes sense for Texans to be able to protect themselves from deranged individuals, whether they're in church, or whether on a college campus or wherever they go."
" The idea that your going to exempt them from a particular place is nonsense to me."

I hope we can see some carry through on statements like this. Of course the Gov. of Texas has limited authority, but can influence legislation.

Are churches in TX off limit at this time??
I take my gun to church (Maine) and the people who know me (including our pastor) know it.
Matter a fact, the pastor is happy about it, since he has a stalker (no joke)!

No. Churches and hospitals are not off limits other than the standard private property rules requiring a "30.06" sign be posted.

Any private property owner in Texas can post a sign making the place off limits.

Any government owned property cannot be posted with the signs, so publicly owned hospitals cannot be posted but privately owned hospitals may be posted.

I've never seen a church or hospital around Ft Worth posted however.

Ah now these are the type of "gun loopholes" that need to be closed. Well done Texas.

The biggest obstacle in TX is the 'travel' law. That only is enough to make me never want to move there - when and if that is fixed, I may consider moving there (I am looking to move by 2010) considering it also the cheapest state to live in.
