Hey all- getting ready to do some shotgun reloading this year (planning to blog it!) and have decided to focus on 12 gauge and 20 gauge.

I was wondering if any of you could share some classic "pet loads" with me so that I can get stocked up on all of the appropriate supplies (hulls, wads, shot, etc).

Here's what I'm thinking (for 12 and 20 gauges):
- Classic skeet shooting loads
- Classic bird hunting loads (duck, 12ga, grouse 20ga)
- Defensive buckshot loads
- Slug loads (might even cast my own!)

I have blue dot and red dot on hand, and Wolf shotshell primers on the way...

Any specifics on wad brand/type, shot type, shot charge, etc. Would be great.

Thanks everyone. Looking forward to this!

I have two different loads for 12 (skeet)...AA hull, Cheddite or Win 209 primer. First - Claybuster wad CB0175-12 over 18.7gr Clays (3/4oz. Load)
Second - Claybuster CB1118-12 over 23.5gr Greendot (1oz. Load)

20ga - Claybuster CB1078-20 over 14.5gr. Greendot (7/8oz. Load)

Also have a load for 1oz. Slug but can't find the data, anyway. The heavier 12 load is my original skeet/sporting/16yd. Trap load I've used for years. Since lead has gone up I found the 3/4oz. Load and have had no problems breaking clays at any of the ranges I shoot, scores haven't dropped either.

I have shotgun presses in 12, 20 & 28. Only one I use much is the 28. Buying shotshells in bulk is so economical compared to reloading I use my loading time on metallic cartridges. I do run a few custom brew on occasion to keep the machines from gathering surface rust. I keep them around in case I actually need them some day. I do have a shot tower also but field & skeet loads are still economical and I can't improve on factory loading enough to use that excuse.

Go to Alliant's reloading page to make sure you use the correct components with your Red Dot - this is different than metallic, so hulls, wads, primers and powders need to follow published recipes

I prefer loading light loads for clay targets and small upland bird - I reload 3/4oz in both 12 and 20. That is basically a 28 gauge loading that patterns great and smokes targets and birds like quail and dove

I've switched to HS-6 for a ton of reasons.

I use STEEL for hunting loads.

If you want them, I can provide loads for all of the following :

Classic skeet shooting loads
Classic bird hunting loads (duck, 12ga, grouse 20ga)

And many of :

Defensive buckshot loads
Slug loads

Up to you. If you want to search, you can find 'em here- or I can list....

But I don't use ytour powders.

pet loads for 12g

I have win540/hs6, win571/hs7 and sr 7625 on hand and would like some steel loads for the powders. There is probably some in the Lyman 4th ed., but I cannot find my copy.
My empty shells are Win(both old and new types)and Rem Shur shot hulls to reload. Also have some Federal hunting hulls, but not many.
Thanks for the help.

Greg
