The Xtreme plated 240 grain RNFP has been my preferred cheap bullet for the indoor range that doesn't allow bare lead. They do OK from my 7.5" Redhawk, but I feel like some other projectiles may shoot a little better.

Anyone have a favorite load for these? I have Red Dot, HP-38, Longshot, 2400 and 4227 in pretty good supply, half-bottles of Titegroup, Power Pistol, and Blue Dot, and a scant amount of Unique.

Oops, yes, that's a .429 Magnum. Forgot to put that in the original title.

Any velocity is of interest. Pounding away with 23 grains of 4227 is fun, but the goal is to pretty up the targets a bit, not to kill the paper any deader.

I like 4.3 gr of Titegroup in a 44 Spl case. Just a shot in the dark, I'd go up to 4.6-5 in a mag case.

This is well under max, which I wouldn't go near anyhow.

Worth a try. Thanks. I don't think I ever tried Titegroup in the .44

Forgot: I also have Trail Boss, and a little AA #5 and #9, but I'm saving the #9 for a special occasion. And NOT a S&W Special occasion!

Trailboss doesn't like plated or jacketed much, but the AA # 5 or AA # 9 should work well. 5 for midrange and 9 for max. I used to shoot the Ranier 240 Gr with Blue Dot for a nice mid-range load out of a Winchester 94. I have some of those left (Don't have the gun), as well as some 240 Gr Powerbond plated bullets, but have never tried them in my Redhawk yet. Just one of those projects I have never gotten to. I think your HP-38, AA #5, & Longshot would be ones to try. Do they shoot well at max with 4227?

They don't shoot terribly. On the rare days I don't screw up too much, I get recognizable groups, not wild patterns, so I guess they're not coming apart or anything disasterous, but I think the gun and I could do a little better. But that's based on casual recollection, not careful record-keeping. I'm good about recording the load data and the state of the fired primers, but not the group sizes.

I should quit being cheap, load up a box of XTPs and shoot them methodically, to better establish a benchmark for my accuracy.
