Old krow, I'm happy to learn of any clarification you may have.

I'm afraid that I can't offer any clarification. In fact, it's probably the opposite. :)

I was wondering the SPCA that you're talking about is a chapter of the ASPCA? What I have read, many, if not most, are operated independently of the ASPCA based in NY. The two that are closest to me are not affiliated with them.

The reason that I asked is that the ASPCA is 100% against hunting completely. One of the local SPCAs are "non-kill" shelters that offer adoption services and try to actually help out with pet/animal issues. Just curious. Texas appears to have quite a few of them.

Okay. I guess I was thinking of the "just the" SPCA. Or, at least, the way it used to be. Animal shelters and such. Worked with local towns and cities. "Dog pound" people.

22-rimfire, to steal from Tamara, "Ignorance is no excuse for a rant," but that doesn't stop PETA or the writers of editorials.

Maybe them folks from PETA didn't realize the elephant was already DEAD and not alive when the tail was cut off.........

I think that most of the local stuff like MSPCA (mobile spca) and <insert a Texan town>SPCA are independent of the ASPCA. I usually check. I would agree that are a pretty worthwhile organizations. We've picked up a couple rescues and made donations.

I don't care all that much for the ASPCA though. I personally don't want any of my money going toward an "anti-hunting" campaign.

The local animal shelters only average about 80%. You do the math.

The MSPCA posts their numbers: http://www.mobilespca.org/Portals/0/downloads/documents/SPCA 2010.pdf

According to them there were 1547 pets total and 84 were euthanized. I don't know what every local SPCA has posted, or what their budgets are, but they seem to do pretty good work and don't mind if I eat venison, so I like them. I don't think that they're cut from the same cloth as PETA anyway.

I thought this thread was going to be about PETA protesting that "Hair thing" The Donald wears on his head??

It is. You didn't notice that the "hair thing" is actually bleached hair from an elephants tail? :)

I think as misguided as PETA can sometimes be their organization probably does more good than harm (hopefully). I just wish they would focus more all these dogs/cats being abused right here in the U.S. than legal hunting. There was an article last week here on THR that showed that countries in Africa that outlawed hunting elephants didn't have any funds to regulate the law and poachers have killed most of the elephant population. Where as other countries in Africa have regulated elephant hunting and charged for a hunting license (like we do here in the U.S.) and have had the funds to regulate it and stop poachers, their elephant population has grown considerably over the years since this was implemented.

Not sure where you got that info. I have seen and read about 80% kill rate. Especially on cats.

Peta cries and moans and wants us farmers put out of business. Hello retards where do you think beef comes from? No farmers no more mcdonalds, etc.

Ryanxia, I've yet to see any good from PETA. What little good they might do, however, is overshadowed by their war on having pets, raising livestock and poultry for food, hunting and medical research.

Some years they have been reported as having raked in around $60 million. Probably $59 million, $900,000 was spent in fighting the activities we see as good.

The link that I posted is where I got it. Most of them are non-profit and post just about everything.

If it wasn't against the rules, I'd link in the PETA porn site
yeah, they aren't attention whore (some literally??)

As for what PETA is good for, mobilizing MASS MOB to beat the bushes on public land the opening day of deer season (save bambi)

support know terrorist groups in the US (there are MORE FBI eco terroist groups in the US than an right wing groups)

Support groups that shut down 'horrible animal farms' that are operating within the law and not violating anything, with good condition animals. Even if these breeders get their stock (some are RARE breeds with less than 500 known to exist) back, thanks to PETA and the HSUS or ASPCA they are now spayed and neutered, gees, there goes whole genetic lines....

Who gives a rat's behind what PETA thinks.....pet killers, liars, and liberal nuts all of them.
