I keep hearing over and over in the news that Phil Spector, rock producer and accused murderer, is a "gun nut." But no details. Did he just have a lot of them or did he do nasty things with them?

The few things I have heard center around his tendency to wave them around randomly at inappropriate times. Like when things are not going well in a recording studio.

We use "gun nut" as a term of endearment, but it's easy to forget that it's a pejorative to most everybody else.

I'd say that waving a pistol around in anger at a recording studio qualifies as person as "a nut with a gun."
