Hey folks,

I'm wondering if anyone is interested in a get-together in the National Forest near Cave Creek, north of Scottsdale?

There's a particular spot (GPS coordinates available upon request, after this weekend -- I'll head up there to get the coordinates) that's particularly well-suited for recreational shooting that myself and several friends have been to numerous times (see here for pictures).

It'd be fun to get a bunch of people (maybe a dozen or so) together for some shooting, BBQ, and socializing.

Being that this is public land, pretty much anything goes, even NFA stuff (nothing flammable like tracers or exploding DDs please). I'll be bringing my suppressed 10/22 for some quiet milkjug-popping fun.

The spot is about 45 minutes away from Scottsdale, so bring stuff to drink. There are no facilities like running water or restrooms.

Dates and times are flexible, so let me know what works for you and we'll all coordinate.

(On a slightly different note, if anyone knows of any good public land in the Tucson area that's suitable for shooting, let me know. I live near the university, and would love to find a good place to go rifle shooting that won't break the bank.)

Seems like they are cracking down on desert shooting around here. If we have a get together in Tucson, the Tucson Rifle club in 3 points would be the best bet. Cost is only $6.

There was a pit out on Whetmore but its been hit hard by LEO running shooters off. Also, another area (old missle silo area) off of 83 S on Old Soniota highway but I don't know where that is.

I'll join in anywhere around Tucson/Phoenix depending on the day.

That's a shame. I know about the TRC, and have shot there before. For a "managed" range, it's one of the best I've seen. Laid-back staff, large variety of ranges, 1000yd rifle range, etc. Much more low-key than any other range I've been to.

However, sometimes I like going out to the desert with friends, firing up the BBQ, and having a good ol' time (safely, of course). That, and it's sometimes fun to shoot while moving, as opposed to standing or sitting at a fixed firing position. Just to mix things up a bit.
