Phys.org Japanese Bladesmithing

Did you see the size of the sharpening wheel?!

My great grandmother had a stone about the same size in her backyard. It was cracked through to the center.

As a kid, I could imagine someone sitting on the seat, peddling the wheel to sharpen a knife.

I think the one thing that caught my eye as a kid about Japanese swords was Kung Fu theater on Saturday's.

Yes, I know, bad analogy but seeing all the sword fights, Samurai...

Then in the 90's I saw an article in Blade magazine or one of the others at the time. Had an article on Michael Bell and the Katana's he makes.

Pretty amazing stuff, good reading and amazing work.

Kind of like this one?

Yes, man the memories just came flooding in. Even down to the cracked stone!

Hers had a pedal set up, not sure if they came that way or someone changed it.

I own a sharpening wheel. No cracks in mine. Has a foot pedal. Quite an article on knife making. Hair splitting sharp and carefully made. Excellent.
