I was wondering if someone could post a picture of the rear sites of a Springfeild GI - .45 so that i could compare the site and site picture to that of a Springeild Mil Spec...I have a quote from the local gun dealer for a NIB Mil Spec and decided to go that route because the GI series the sites are non existant...thanks for your help

If you look at the side views posted on the Springfield Web site (click for GI and Mil-Spec models), you'll see the sights are almost identical in design, except that the Mil-Spec's are higher than the GI's. That's the only difference I can see.

I have to really concentrate to line up the sights on my GI. I've thought about replacing them, but since this was bought as a carry gun and I doubt I'll be making too many long-distance shots I'm holding off on the new sights.

FWIW, I bought an Argentine surplus 1911 that had the original style sights (what the Springfield GI has). They're usable, but not conducive to precise use. I replaced mine with Novaks. I've used a Springfield Mil-Spec, and while the sights aren't as good as the aftermarket options, they are much better than the GI sights.

i have studdied the side by side views...and they are very close i was just wondering how different they were...and what is the average cost to replace...
