Would like to see pics of a factory-finished S&W J-frame airweight, specifically a 637, with mother of pearl and/or ivory grips (faux or real), either magna or boot style.

I'm hoping to see how the blue-grey painted finish on these alloy guns looks with these types of grips. The picture used for the gun I bought did not translate the actual color/finish very well, and I'm slightly disappointed with it. It's very milky.

thanks

finally found a few myself, mostly from the smith-wessonforum.com

in case anyone else was looking:

not 637's, but just the same. nothing with pearl either.

meh....

looks like I'm putting mine up for sale and looking for something nickel plated or polished stainless, or I'm gonna grow some cajones and take my new airweight to the buffing wheel.

I'm interested to know this as well.

I think the dull grayish finish would look good with MOP grips IMHO.

Just thinking that some guns lend themselves to being pimped out more than others. Airweights are rather deep in the "others" category.

Yes, the attempt can be made, but...

yeah, I know.

here's some MoP for ya! (sorta):

still not really what i'm after.

how about some (bad faux) stags?

hahah, I know, right? at least they're not mine.

But I'm having a hard time finding pics of what I'm looking for. That 2nd pic I posted is slowly growing on me - as I look at it again, those appear to be micarta grips. Problem is, the flash in that pic makes the finish look better than it does in person - the 1st pic is what the finish really looks like.

I think I may just be wasting my time with this new airweight. I'm sure I could get it looking acceptable by stripping the finish and polishing it, but I just don't have the confidence to do that to a brand new gun.

well, not a S&W, but similar bead blast finish on this Taurus with pearl boot grips:

Getting farther away from what I was looking for in the first place, but I find these interesting - unstained cherry wood grips:

I'm looking for grips for a blued 30-1 and those unstained cherry may be just the ticket.

Now the trick is finding some! If you find some, make sure and let us know where!

FINALLY found some pics of some pearl grips on a recent airweight on gunbroker.

pics are pretty poor, but at least it gives me an idea of what it will look like.

Honestly, I like those cherrywood grips better than these pearls.

what do you think?

Solved my grip quest.

Yesterday I bought this:

Should go nicely with just about anything.

Thanks. I wish it was going to be mine, but the whole reason for this whole exercise is that it will be an x-mas present to the wife.

She's been expressing an interest in having a revolver instead of (or, probably in addition to) the Sig P225 she already has. I told her to find one she liked and we'd get it. While browsing a gun shop one day, she saw one that she wanted - she excitedly called me over and pointed it out:

nice, eh? the price tag? $3,495.00 :what::what::what::eek:   :barf: (that includes the real ivory grips on it too)

After recovering from my little heart attack, I told her sorry, try again. lol

That's what I was trying to accomplish with the airweight, but realized that was never going to happen and I would have just been disappointed at the end result. As luck would have it, a clean nickel Model 36 popped up on a local gun forum for the right price, and I snatched it up. Perfect timing! Anyway, I know I can't afford to have one engraved, but maybe this little nickel 36 with some nice (faux) ivory or mother of pearl grips will do for the time being until I hit the lottery. ;)

(Oh, and I guess I do end up with a 637 airweight of my own!)

Your wife has a fine taste in firearms! :D

Don't let her on smith-wesson forum, a member there has a tread on his "tattooed" 686. After seeing it I was tempted to get a police trade in model 64 polish it up and send it in for some engraving, all for less than $900.

At least you get a new revolver as well! :)

luckily, she doesn't spend any time browsing online gun forums, so I'm safe there.

for anyone else still interested in what a modern airweight looks like with pearl grips, i found a pic:

I'm learning towards ivory grips with medallions for the nickel 36.

Of all of them, Ive always come back to the old service type stocks, with a "T" grip, of course. :)

Here's a couple.....

I know just what you mean. Have a couple of different Pachmayr, Rogers Combat, and Unlce Mike's boot grips for my J frames but I always seem to come back to the factory stocks with a Tyler T-Grip adapter when it comes to concealed carry.

Thanks for the pics guys. I'm curious what it is about magna grips along with the tyler t-grip that people like - seems to me it effectively acts like a boot grip, so why not just go with boot grips? Is it an aesthetic thing?
