grips came in yesterday:

Ended up choosing the smooth grips, as they seemed more elegant to me, perhaps due to their simplicity? Sorry for the poor lighting, but even in decent light, they are slightly more 'aged' colored than I was expecting - much more cream than white. I guess it's not too bad though. One of the S&W medallions was placed slightly skewed too :( At least they came with grip screws (two actually).

And then there's the fitment:

Guess I'm going to have to spend some time with some sandpaper on a piece of glass.

This thread makes me wonder, I'm buying a used 638 tomorrow. If I wanted to give it a classic look but still comfy to shoot/carry, would you suggest service grips with a T-grip or a wood boot grip?

tiamat, I think it looks pretty good, just sand them to fit a little better.

ABTOMAT, Magnas with a BK or Tyler T grip adapters would be more classic looking and aren't bad but I prefer a set of boot grips like these from Badger custom grips.

going to be a lot of sanding to take down 1/16" of an inch on each one. oh well, it's already cold here, so nothing much else to do.

and this showed up today from ebay:

Going to fit it with some foam and line it with some velvet and make it a gift box for it.

Your new grips are sweet! I actually prefer the cream colored "aged" ivory look versus the bright white "new" ones. Nice use of the cigar box as a display case. My mom gave me a sectioned cherry wood box that contained six different teas from around the world. I don't know what it cost but the box was definitely worth more than the tea inside and I ended up using it to display my watch collection.

Thanks. They are slightly less 'yellow' than in that pic, but the lighting was poor - need to get some better daytime pics up.

Nice! would like to see that (so make sure there's a gun in the pic so it qualifies!)

Made a bit of progress on the gift box. Foam has been cut out, now I need to cover it:
