I primarily hunt with a rifle although once every several years I will deer hunt in an area that requires a shotgun and slugs. Because of this it doesn't make sense to me to have a dedicated scope for my shotgun. All of my rifles have a picitinney style mount so I'm thinking that it would make the most sense to have a the same setup on the shotgun to make it easy to borrow a scope off a rifle. A b square saddle mount is appealing because it is easy to install but can also be easily removed when it is not needed as my shotgun is primarily used for bird hunting and all the mounts I've seen block the view of the bead. The only issue with the b square is that it is a weaver mount so the spacing is not correct for what I'm looking for. I realize that I can simply loosen the rings and move them to accommodate the weaver mount but I would rather keep life simple and not have to do that.

Is anyone aware of any mounts for an 870 that fall within picitinney specs for slot spacing that either don't block the bead or are easy to remove.

I'd rather not spend $200-300 for a cantilever barrel that I would use once every 4 or 5 years. The other option would be for a gunsmith to modify a b square mount.

There is a side saddle mount for your 870 that can be easily removed. The side saddle mount attaches using the existing trigger pins in your guns receiver. The mount includes pins that are longer than the existing trigger pins.

I have a Mossberg that has a drilled and tapped receiver. I have removed the weaver scope mounts and replaced them. The gun never needed sighting in when I replaced the scope. I just use fingernail polish on the scope mount screws.

Side saddle scope mount (there are several for the 870) http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/7-ASM2

The OP however is looking for a 1913 Standard rail to avoid adjusting scope rings and adding witness marks. It's what makes that standard a blessing whose time was long overdue.
