I mainly read these forums and have never posted, but thought I'd share my recent purchasing experience.
I picked up a new Henry rifle the other day, the Frontier H001T with the octagon barrel and upgraded sights. I'm familiar with guns, but this is only my second firearm and first rifle. I chose 22lr mainly because of ammo cost. I wanted something that I could plink with all day and not break the bank.
None of the local stores had the frontier. All carried either the golden boy or basic Henry. While the golden boy looked nice, the comb was too low for me to get used to. The frontier had all the upgrades I wanted and the fit (like the basic lever) was great.
So far, I've shot about 200 rounds. I'm definitely considering some sort of speed loader. I removed the stocks this morning and polished them to a mirror shine with Meguiar's Scratch-X. The fore stock had just the tiniest bit of up-down play, but I resolved this by shimming it with some nylon surgical tape (also works great for car panel squeaks).
Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. At 25 yards, my grouping is about fist-sized, but I'm sure that's me and not the rifle.
Below are pics of the fam. The other is my carry, a S&W 1911ES with Esmeralda grips (which I kinda messed up near the screw holes) and Check-mate flush-fit mags. I'll probably polish up the grips here too; it really enhances the grain of the wood.
