Thisaway, see Scott45b's post earlier in this thread. You can bet I'm going to buy some of the Beckham clips! I've used their clips for the 625, and am very impressed with them. They're also much easier to load and unload (finger pressure only) than the steel 625 clips I used before.

Man...a really stout 5-round L frame .41 Smith- maybe 3 or 3.3" barrel- would be so sweet...

John

Scott45b mentioned up there that he's expecting to have them in may. I believe this are polymer moonclips and have gotten good reviews from what I've seen.

-edit

Preacherman beat me too it by a long shot, I didn't see the second page. Carry on :)

RIMZ 646 clips are on the drawing board for production release in May. They will use the same cartridge retention as the RIMZ 610 but on the L frame spacing. Pricing will be less than the steel clips, approximately $12.00 per package of 5 clips.

One of the better revolver shooters in our IDPA club is shooting a 646 and he is much faster and more accurate with it than he was with his 625. I am still shooting a 625 and have been thinking about switching over. Around here the best you can do on a 646 is about $565 with tax. Sure sounds like the prices elsewhere in the country are better.

Just what I needed, I was looking at the 686 super which I would love to have but not for $1000. I load both super for idpa and 40 for ipsc so this would be great.
Do they still make these, how hard are they to find. Tell me if I am right. These are like a 686 but in 40 cal. and they are 6 shot right? L-frame?
Thanks

Nope, it was a limited run of 900 guns. How hard are they to find? Our distributor that we use most had 14 of them in late February and now has 0. We've had three in the shop, and sold them all (the last one went last Friday.) You're probably going to need to track one down used.

Right, and right. :)

There is a dealer here in Michigan that had at least 2 that I saw in his shop 2 weeks ago. He is asking $539 plus 6% sales tax firm. I would have bought one if he would have taken the $499 I see on GunBroker.com from time to time.

I looked around some and found at least 2 for 499 and 530 or so, now to check into good moon clips from what I have read here.
Thanks I knew THR could help me spend more money I didn't have on another gun:evil:

Well I am pretty much sold just counting my money to see how soon I can get one.

I do have one more question some of the current owners can probably tell me. Do the moon clips hold the rounds rigid or do they move around. I am wanting the more rigid for faster reloading.

Regarding the S&W 646, Beckham Design is in the final stages of clip development for the 646. We have received numerous calls for the clip. The cartridge retention and material will be the same as the current RIMZ 610. We expect the 646 clip to be available by May 2004.

Scott will these hold the rounds rigid in the moon clips. The only moon clips I have played with are for a j-frame 940 and they are too loose. I have never tried a 610 don't know how they are. Thanks

I liked the look of the 646 I saw - I just don't like the 'source' of said look - titanium. Very little is saved by putting a Ti cylinder in a SS frame. Ti is too finicky. When an all-SS version appears, I'll consider said purchase. Right now, my 296 is an appropriate use of a Ti cylinder - and the only such I'll have. Neat looking revolver. Several range members have them.

Stainz,

When an all-SS version appears, I'll consider said purchase.

From what's been said, you won't see a stainless-cylinder 6-shot .40 L-frame. Apparently Ti is used due to it's resilience, rather than its light weight in this application, which has fairly marginal chamber wall thickness.

Current prices for 646??

Hi all-
Dredging up a thread from a while ago...I'm interested in what current market prices would be for the "2nd" generation (4" full underlug) of 646 would be. Is $550 out of line? How often do these come up for sale? I'd like to get one to partner with my two .40 autos (H/K USP Compact and Para P16-40 Limited). Thanks much.

Interesting timing. I just sold my NIB 646 yesterday for $575 ($625 with New Miculek grips). I purchased it a couple of years ago to use in IDPA and before I could try it they changed the rules so I decided to stick with my 625. It was a nice revolver with very good balance and I had expected to keep it but found myself in need of the cash.

Greg

Greg-
That groan you hear is coming all the way from Colorado! :) Sounds like it is/was a nice unit in terms of handling, etc. Oh well, I suppose I'll keep looking. Too bad I didn't post a few days earlier, but I'm sure you were already past the point of taking other options. Tell me some more about it, if you could.

Rob

Hey Jhawk, I think a friend has a 646 that hasn't been shot hardly at all, he had it up for sale a while back, I will check to see if he will part with it. I have a 610 or I would buy it.

Encoreman-
That would be mighty kind of you. Please let me know what you find out. If things go right for me tomorrow, I'll have a reason to celebrate with a purchase!
