The REAL frozen tundra
After months of debate I finally broke down and bought a .45. Figured I'd celebrate my raise with a new gun and, long story short, walked off today with a used p220 (DA/SA).

It looks like it was an old duty weapon, with some holster wear on the slide, but after giving it a thorough cleaning, I determined it is in wonderful shape. I really, really, really like the way it feels in my hand and I can finally understand why some of you claim that my Ruger P89 feels like a "brick" in the hand. I liked it so much that it immediately replaced my P89 in my bedside safe, eventhough it has been unproven to me at the range (my .357 is still the first gun I grab anyway, I'm a much better shot with it). Poor little 9mm... now reduced to a safe ... queen?

After working some snap caps on it, I really like the trigger too, a long DA pull, but I was used to that on my P89 and GP100; but this finished so much cleaner than I am used too (although, I don't care what anyone says, my GP100 has the sweetest SA trigger I have yet encounter).

All and all I am very pleased with my newest purchase ($600ish OTD) and cannot wait until I can get it out to the range. Unfortunately that probably not be for a few weeks (stupid work!). I'll report back when I finally get this gal out.

congrats, I love my new 220 combat. It got sent to Sig twice for warranty but they finally got it right. Too bad its twice as expensive as my 9mm to shoot. Good choice.

It has a spur hammer, and it appears to not be from west germany (I am mostly saying this due to the fact that the slide says "made in Germany", not "made in west germany".

One of the mags seems to be giving me some problems (it doesn't like to feed my snap caps reliably but, then again, they are snap caps), and I am a bit concerned that it'll cause some problems feeding when I take it to the range, luckily mags are easy enough to replace.

Hopefully I can get to the range tomorrow, if work permits.

Jr-
Welcome to the best .45 on earth (IMHO). I bought my first P220 back in 1995. I'm up to 4 now and always looking to add more. You might want to replace those mag springs with some fresh ones from Wolff springs.

I've had really good luck with them and Wolff is a great company to deal with.
Good luck with your Sig and stop by at the Sig Club (in my signature) and post a range report and a picture :)

Sigs do have a way of mysteriously multiplying once you get one :scrutiny:
Here's my Sig family minus a W.German P226 getting a reverse two tone job at CCR.

Congrat's On Your Purchase Of A SIG P220

Undoubtedly one of the finsest DA/SA .45's on the current U.S. market; with
the other being an H&K. My P220's (both, being of West German origin) have
served me well. I have but one left, as it was my former duty weapon for a
lot of year's. It still serves as my primary home D' handgun; and lies within
easy grasp if a bump is heard during the night. You will find that the P220
is a classic P-series SIG at its finest. These guns are extremely accurate,
right from the box; and reliable as they come~! Enjoy;):D

If I were a .45 man, I'd be shooting a P220. The entire Sig P series is IMNSHO the finest handgun made. Can't beat the feel of a Sig and combine that with the accuracy, reliability, and engineering... It's just a given that we should all own Sigs.

I just bought my 3rd P220. They fit my hand like no other pistol. Even though I also love 1911's, the Sig P220 is IMO the finest .45 production pistol made.

Well, I STILL haven't had a chance to get my new (to me) Sig P220 out to the range yet, work kept me in New Jersey for the last two weeks and I think that MAYBE I'll be able to get out this weekend.

Another note, I ran into some rust on my Sig when I got home. There was a considerable amount of surface rust on the slide and mags, I am guessing it had something to do with the monsoon we had up here in WI while I was gone at work. Heck, even my stainless steel GP 100 had some rust on it...

So as I am cleaning my Sig up, I noticed that it is indeed a West German P220, so I was mistaken when I spoke up earlier... I feel like a fool!

Apparently that little 'W' in front of Germany was too small for me to see or something.

Well, you're screwed now.

Sigs tend to spoil other guns for people, and they're not cheap by any means. I think Blindref probably has about 8 grand in that picture up there, yow.

Welcome to the family.

It will get worse. See first you will get a few more Sigs...but the problem is that Sig snobs generally regard HK's as one of the few weapons that rival Sig quality, so then you will go buy a few HK's....but the problem is that HK snobs generally regard Sigs as one of the few weapons that rival HK quality, so then you will go by some new Sigs...god its a vicious cylce, I have seen it time and time again.

I, like many others, bought one Sig and then a very short while bought another and I'm already getting the itch to get a 226. I would highly, highly recommend that you call Sig and send it in for a servicing. My first Sig I bought used and started to have some trouble with my trigger. I paid the $129 bucks and sent it in. I later found out that the main spring had been cut and the action was "dangerously light". Outside of that issue having all new springs put in made a huge difference. Sig recommends a tune up about every 5000 rounds.

Me too! I'm seriously considering getting a P226 CPO either around Christmas or next summer. From gunbroker it seems like I can get one easily for under $550.

Congrats on your new P220. May suggest that you consider selling the Ruger and put the money towards a P220 Compact or a P245 for concealed carry. That way you'd have magazine capability. Trust me, when you see how well the P220 shoots, you'll want to use it or a similar smaller version as a carry gun. Also, you might want to dress it up with a nice set of wood grips. They look great on Sigs.

My is my Sig lineup: Sig P220, Sig GSR, Sig P239, Sig 556, Sig P245, Sig P229 Elite
