This BP addiction is worse then the ebola virus, with it you know you'll never get it again but with the BP one leads to another then another....Anyway just picked up my 4th rifle from a friend. Needs a little work but I think it is salvagable..I know it is not and "old" old one not sure when it was made..Says Made in Italy for Charles Daly on it..45 Cal percussion."Hawkens" style double triggers. The brass is well non brassy lookin and the barrel almost looks in the white..Some minor light surface rust on the outside and around the hooked breech area..Inside the barrel looks decent nothing pitted from what I can see. Only problems I can find is the nipple looks split, the ramrod has a crack or split in it but the main thing is the screw that holds the hammer on is broke off (the head of it) The hammer seems tight can't get it to come off. But I wonder what size nipple it take and IF I can get the broken part of the screw out and finding another to replace it with..I don't even know if those screws are left or right handed threads..Only gave him 70 for it, sucker sure is heavy..Any ideas on where to get parts? Can't seem to find much info on this one..

Does the rifling look like this, 12 land and grooves? If so, it's a good shooter.

I worked on this one for a friend, this one had only been fired about ten times ( i was told ),cleaned and put away, but the nipple was mushroomed (knucklehead dry firing)
I replaced it with an extra one i had for my Lyman Deer Stalker, check out Lymans website, should be easy to replace. It was made by Investarms so it should be easy to find parts

My friend took it out after i checked it out and fired a tight ( under 2" )5 shot group with it at 50 yds

I think Daley's were made by Investarms same as the Lyman trade gun and the Cabela's Hawken. Chas Daley has a shop outside of Harrisburg, PA, but it ought to be a hoot cheaper at TOW.

Any gunsmith worth the name should be able to get the nipple and broken screw out for you.
Looks to me like you got a deal!

I'd drill that screw out with a small diameter drill. Tap it. Insert screw (to check thread) and then epoxy the screw in. By rotating that screw, the other screw should come out. Sometimes gluing a pin into a fresh drilled hole will allow the broken screw to be unscrewed. I've done that too.

When you find a deal it's pretty hard to resist. Especially if you're in a state like me where they're very fussy about modern firearms but surprisingly reasonable about muzzleloaders. There's a whole level of impulse purchase that we haven't built up any immunity to. :)

Yep that's it..Has the 12 land groove combo.. Imported by Investa arms as it has the square with the BIG "I" in it..I also have a few extra nipples from a Deerstalker rifle that came with another one I picked up, his was in worse shape clean wise than this one..Also saw that Numrich has a listing for this one with some spare parts in stock.. So I guess I'll tear this one down, give it a good cleaning, clean the light rust off (no pitting as far as I can see) and see how it shoots..Think I'll leave the barrel as is, kinda like the mottled blue look but I don't like the varnished look of the stock..So I guess I did ok for $70..So in my quest to fuel my addiction I have now aquired 4 BP rifles, 2 of which are FLINTlocks..which almost cause me and my brother a trip to the emergency room because of the grins we had both had the first time we actually fired one...LOL ( I called em Mafia necktie grins)

The nipples are 6mm X 0.75mm thread pitch and the screw for the hammer will probably be metric also, just a little heads up. ToTW has them listed made by Treso.

I have a 50 cal Cabela's (Investarms), just traded for it and haven't shot it yet.
