I am pretty new to Ithaca, but I found a late 40s M37 in pretty damn good condition. I am waiting on the arrival of the firearm.

What should I expect? Always wanted one. Any faults with the design?

I plan on using it for dove/quail hunting.

Depending on the configuration, you bought the right gun for that. It can be a bit hard on your shoulder. The light weight trade off is more felt recoil. Show us some pictures when you get it.

I plan on taking some pics for sure. The LOP is about 14-14 1/4 inches. 12 gauge, 2 3/4 chamber, with a modified choke.

The action can be pretty dirty.
You have to take the stock off to get at the action.
The old stock bolts are a bear to get off. You need a square ratchet of the correct size.
Sometimes the head is cracked from too much tension on the stock bolt.
Sometimes the head of the stock is oil soaked from too much oil in the action and storing it on its butt.
Frank Vallone at Sycamore Hll Designs can clean and tune it for you.
The barrel should be numbered to the gun.

i am still hunting with my grampa's. so far it every year i see a deer it puts one in the fridge for me. good luck and enjoy.
