My buddy asked me what the best holographic sight would be for his SW 629 revolver.

I told him a Trijicon 42mm Reflex. :D:D:D:D

I had to see it happen.

He just texted me pics. The rail shows up tomorrow I believe so he just set the sight next to the gun.

We are cracking up at how huge it is but both love the weirdness of it all.

Well, truthfully, it was kind of a F-up.

I knew the Reflex 42mm was going to be bigger than usual, but hadn't seen one in person, just on the net. So when he sent me the photos, I realized at that point it was way too big. He said today he's going to try it, and then put it on a semi-auto rifle most likely.

No batteries required:

That's my 6" 629 with a Weigand rail, Weaver H2 2x28 handgun scope, and .500 Magnum Hogue monogrip. Great for 50-100 yd plinking with everything - .44 Russians - real Magnums. It gets the scope mounted every fall - for a few weeks max - I like the iron sights better for my 12-25 yd plinking and I no longer hunt.

I've just never had good luck with those red dot scopes - and don't currently own one.

Stainz,

Trijicons do not require batteries.

They use a fiber optic collection tube wrapped around the exterior of the sight to gather light for the dot.

I am the opposite. I never liked scopes on revolvers. I always thought that the available range warranted an open window sight. Some people shoot them farther, just not me.

That is not a 629, it looks more like a 329. That get up would not work too well at any kind of distance... sigh

So, a Trijicon is just a HiViz with more f.o. pickup! Live and learn... I could just see a half dollar sized CR-2032 needed... you know the Lithium cell - the one WallyWorld is always out of - and dies when the red dot is left on overnite. Seriously, I have bad history with them... and then there is the parallax problem with reflex sights - always a problem with my prebsbyopic eyes. The 'scope, with it's eyepiece dioptic adjustment, compensates for that. Then I found that low strength reading glass diopter (+1.00 to +1.25) full lens safety glasses were my key to iron sight use again - nirvana!

Like I said, my 'scope rides atop that rail maybe once a year - in the fall - as I ponder it's use in hunting white tail - but I just don't buy a license. I prefer the simplicity/dependability of iron sights, admittedl, many of my S&W's sporting the HiViz f.o. front sights.

I agree re the 329 being a beast with real Magnums. The padded backstrap provided by the .500 Magnum Hogue monogrips, a la my 6" 629 in the above picture, would help with the briskness of the recoil, but do little to keep the muzzle down, other than a tad higher grip. Still, they are a Godsend with the 629's and real Magnums - well worth the $38 + s/h from S&W Accessories.

Yeah, the Trijicons are awesome though without needing a batt. I told him I would buy it if he does not want it. He says the dot is very bright.

He also said it was a 629...but, it's not just by looking. Guess it is 329. Hmm

About the offset, he said he only shoots 25 yards. So it makes no difference.
