A fine rifle at a bargain price. I had one that had a sewer pipe looking bore but would outshoot all but a few of my very best bolt guns.

I still use a 1903A3 in our club's military rifle competition. I'll just say that an M1, M1 Carbine or AR, M-4 has never beat it. It REALLY outperforms them at 600 yards and beyond.

only Smith Coronas I had my hands on were typewriters....what caliber are those...I saw someone mention .30 cal. did they make em in different calibers or just that one? anyway, good looking piece of history. I think you got a helluva deal too.

Smith-Corona and Remington had WW2 contracts for the 03/A3 rifles, which were nothing more than a slightly altered M1903 Springfield Rifle to enable them to speed up and reduce the cost of production. In all cases, they were chambered for the U.S. government issue round at that time of .30-06. I have had several Smith-Corona's over the years, but the only one I have at this time is an unissued, unfired one, still in cosmoline.

That's a great looking heirloom. It reminds me of the Russian 91/30 Mosin-Nagant (I have one of those). In fact, they look practically identical except that the receiver is somewhat visible below the stock on the Mosin. Do you know if the original design of your SC came from Russian roots, or is it strictly American?

The 03-A3 is entirely unrelated to the Mosin-Nagant. The 03-A3 is descended from the M1903, which is based on the Mauser rifles that the US fought against in 1898.

You have a wonderful rifle there. I too just aquired a 03 A3 remington. I wish my stock was still in original shape but some one has varnished it long ago. Hers some pictures of mine, Im proud to have her. I was able to get her for $200
