Overall format:

Friday: optional stationary/KD long-range side match
Sat and Sun: one approx 3.5 mile field course per day, with 10 stations and 6 target opportunities per station. You have 5 minutes to get ready, locate, range, and engage each of the 6 targets with one shot each. Total score is number of hits.

Another top shelf match put on by Zak and his crew. All of the stages and target shapes/sizes/presentations were well thought out and challenging. The stages were just different enough from last year to not make anything a gimme. Some stages were very different which was a huge bonus. Lots more shooting from sticks and awkward/ugly positions was pretty cool. I managed to get a little payback on stage 6 south which made my match.

The match ran as smooth as can be. I did not hear one single whine about anything the whole weekend...

The prize table was very impressive as well. Many thanks to the match sponsors for going above and beyond to support the shooting sports.

from reading the rules this sounds like a solid step up in difficulty from the sporting rifle match in raton, is that fair to say?

Looks great though... think I'll have to try it or the introduction course to it!

It's like shooting the SRM with two dogs attacking you the whole time.

Well I'm in then. I'll be looking for the 2012 dates!

Not sure how well I'll do ranging smaller targets with my scope though. And the LRF I have isn't high end. Should be a learning experience.

Ranging with the reticle is a no-go. Target size is not known.

Wow, so knowing that - are most people running with high end LRF's or are there other popular techniques being used? i see someone had the bushnell bino/LRF combo, if it works good seems like it'd be a great fit for this competition.

again, awesome pictures, thanks for sharing them. long range shooting and hiking must be the two best hobbies out there.

Everyone uses a LRF, some high end, some cheaper. There's definitely an advantage to using one that will reliably range in a variety of conditions, on a variety of "targets", etc. I have a full equipment survey online for 2008-2010 already (the SS match reports on the demigodllc site), and the 2011 one is in the works-- but the two that are generally most popular are the Leica Geovid binoculars and the Swarovski Laser Guide. There are a few cheaper options that will work pretty well.
