Well I would like to get an 1851 Navy at Cabelas - I wanted to hold out until the Pietta 1851 Navy London goes on sale for $249 again .... but now I am torn because I see that the 1851 Navy (with brass trigger guard and backstrap) is on sale.

I already have a 1861 Navy (with steel trigger guard and backstrap). The main reason i wanted to wait for the 1851 Navy London to go on sale was so that I could have a matched set of steel frames (to match my 1861) and perhaps get an extra barrel down the road....so that i could swap them out and get a set of matched pistols -- now i noticed that the frames are not the same - the 1861 is a military frame that has cutouts for that carbine stock.

So what should I do! Get the 1851 Navy on sale of wait for the 1851 Navy London to possibly go down to $249 someday? :banghead:

Buy now. What's $179?

Asking this forum whether you should buy a gun is like Charlie Sheen asking his coke dealer whether he should buy another half-key. :D

Well, as someone posted on another thread, it looks like the 51 Navy will be on sale till Dec 31st, at least it looks that way on Cabelas black powder site. You could hold out for another week or so and see if the London drops to $249.

Good luck. If the London going on sale again for $249 is anything like waiting for the Walker to go on sale, then you know that only happens once in a blue moon!
But like with global warming, one never knows what could happen next. :)

Hahaha! about charlie sheen, lol. I haven't followed cabelas' price fluctuations or sales since I am recently interested in blackpowder revolvers, but it seems kind of unlikely that they would put the London back on sale - unless they have done stuff like that in the past....

Well, i may wait a while but it would be bad if i missed the sale on those 1851s --- The 58 Remington was only on sale for a couple of days, right? Why do some think this 1851 will be on sale through Christmas? The 1861 sold out twice when it was on sale!

Dangit, i should probably just get it soon, lol

When you click on the 1851 Navy on Cabelas website, it gives a description of the gun and it states in red something about getting 20% back in points when you use your Club Visa and the offer is good till Dec 31st. As I read it again I'm not sure if they mean the 51 Navy or the 20% back in points, or both.

You're right, you best just buy it now and not take any chances or you will kick yourself if you miss out!

PS--I suppose you could call Cabelas and ask.

I'm mighty tempted to contact the "gun guys" at Cabelas and put in a -conditional order-
(I will buy two -IF- and only -IF- you locate and ship me a pair of the 1851s with consecutive serial numbers), It worked for me when I bought a pair of U.S. Marshalls.
Then I would use my 20% in points to demolish a sale price on a London '51 when it occurs.
Otherwise, I am just going to wait for a good price on the London.
I can really just take it or leave it on the standard '51s, (I really dislike the Pietta Navy grip frame) but if I could score that pair as described, I think I just might round out the collection with them.

back to normal price  - i will just have to wait for a London one

***False alarm - the price changed back to $179.... weird. Also the price on the G&G was temporarily $199 then went back to $209***

Strawhat, those are nice.... are they uberti 1861s?
Yes, they are both Uberti's. Imported by Replica Arms, when they were in Marietta Ohio, just proir to being bought out by Val Forgett's Navy Arms. I got them in 1971 and the were built in 1970. Full fluted cylinders, iron back strap and iron guards. I like them, a lot.

Well that sale was a bit misleading... I didn't know the whole points/credit thing was the part that was on sale through the end of the year. I read it like the gun was going to be on sale with that deal through the 31st:mad:

Oh well, SOMETHING will be on sale at some time.

The short barrel '60 over at Taylor's turned my head , I forgot all about the '51s @ Cabelas and got that deal instead.
Besides, They had ALL of the parts I have been looking to get (ended up being $125.00 worth! of spares & such) so I 'm sure I came out ahead.
Like I said in the earlier post, those Pietta Navy grips just turn me off. So now I don't need to deal with reshaping them.
But I'm still looking forward to the .36 London to come up at a more reasonable price though.
