I have the opportunity to aquire one of the above. Is it another Pietta fantasy gun or did it really exist?

Fantasy,
Remington did not produce any .36 or .44 revolvers with brass frames.

Definitely a "fantasy" gun. Closest thing to it during the Civil War would be a Spiller and Burr revolver which was a brass framed copy of the Whitney Navy .36 revolver.
