Pimp my AR

lol... Larue is the new ARMs.

Anyway, since an SBR with suppressor is in my near future, does the Gemtech bi-lock or AAC FS have to be permanently attached, is it required to be installed by them, etc?

i'll let you know monday how i like my surefire m73 railmounts, and first samco vertical grip. didnt get a chance to shoot last weekend but i'm bound and determined to make it to the range this weekend.

also will report on the ARMs buis.

if anything, putting new foregrips on with the rails does make it feel better. i'm impressed with how the surefire feels with the rubber sheath fixed in place. its got good grip. plus its well ventilated so it looks uber-ninja.

the trijicon reflex is okay so long as you get used to the blue/orange filter. it was distracting to me though. one of the impressive attributes of the eotech is its lack of parallax. the acog can be had in different magnifications, i think from 1.5x to 4x. theres also a compact version of it. i would definitely call the acog "Pimp" though. having only one power source (fiberoptic) kind of removes it from the Ninja category.

I decided recently to over-build myself an AR, loosely based on Bushmaster's Mod Carbine.
I got a complete lower with Ace skeleton stock from Ameetec. I got an Ameetec upper too. I got the following:
-WOA 16" fluted SS mid-length barrel (I think thats a 1-7) .223 Wylde chamber
-JP Rifle SS bolt carrier
-JP Rifle adjustable gas block
-YHM lightweight FF handguard
-Bennie Cooley Muzzle Break

I was going to get the TiN trigger and selector switch but found plenty of other stuff to spend money on. Havent decided on BUIS yet.

Given I will probably use it for plinking and light target shooting it is completely over the top, a total waste of money. But fun. Now if I could just add "da switch"

It doesn't have to be installed by them, but they don't warrenty their suppressors unless they did the threading. Actually, AAC doesn't do their own threading they have you send your stuff to a third party: http://www.advanced-armament.com/products/thread.asp

One thing you might also consider is the Gemtech HALO mount that uses a standard military flash suppressor.

I only have a military type flash suppressor on one of my guns. All the rest have either some aftermarket suppressor, muzzle brake, or nothing. So, I would have to have the military flash suppressors installed anyway, so I didn't consider this to be a factor. I read where a lot of the civilian look-a-like flash suppressors won't fit the HALO mount. Rather than chance it, I just skipped the whole thing. I chose the M4-2000 simply because I saw a new one for sale on AR15.com equipment exchange and wouldn't have to wait forever to get one from the factory. I already have two AAC suppressors and they took forever to get (I ordered from the factory).

Yep, we've got a really small shop.

Too small in fact.

15,000 sq ft. with the main building and another 10,000 sq ft. of warehouse about ten minutes away and a few hundred acre training facility.

And we've never sent anything anywhere. Not to a single APO or even to a contractor or private firm.

Now, what can you do about this nest loop?

if it is an SBR it doesn't have to be "permanently attached" by law since the bbl is less than 16" anyhow. but i would recommend it be somewhat permanent, since you don't want your mount to back out during fire and in essence render the bi-lock or ratchet lock useless and cause a baffle strike.

you can install it yourself. the ratchet lock and bilock flash suppressors all are threaded 1/2 x 28 tpi which is the same thread pattern as a GI barrel. if for some reason you have to thread a postban barrel then have GemTech or AAC refer you to someone since the threading must be cocentric.

hope that helped.

444 I meet a LaRue employee at a past gun show and did not like his attitude or his smell. He kind of turn me off on LaRue.

"What twist barrel did you get? Is it chrome-lined?"

It is 1/9 and chrome lined (special order from RRA).

Not to hijack Ducthman's thread....but I just picked-up my 1st EBR today. RRA 16" 1/9, chrome lined, collapsable stock, NM 2 stage trigger, EOTech mount. I've got the EOTech 512 already, gonna attempt to mount it tonight. I've got 8 30 rd mags & plenty of ammo for starters.

Supposed to stop raining soon, heading out to my practice range tomorrow.

There's a 3 gun match this Saturday, I'll take the AR & the 870 and give it a try.

Now that I have an EBR in the house, my life is complete!

Also who uses a Acog and how do they like it?

I have been using a TA11 ACOG routinely for a couple of years now. I have been very pleased with mine. The BAC ACOGs, the EOtech and the Aimpoint all are very nice general purpose optics that have certain tradeoffs.

This is a generalization; but you need to identify the point where magnification becomes useful for you in searching for and identifying targets; because that is the distance where the ACOG begins to dominate the reflex-style sights. Under this distance, the reflex style sights will provide faster acquisition and your own eyes will be sufficient to identify while providing a wider field of view than an ACOG. Over this distance, the Aimpoint may still be faster on target; but will start to obscure smaller targets and identifying what the target is (or where it is) can be more difficult with the naked eye.

A lot of this will depend on what you are targeting and where as well. If you are targeting white IDPA silhouettes on a square range, the Aimpoint will serve to a lot longer range than if you are targeting OD drab 6" steel plates hung in the trees.

AR15.com has an Optics forum under the AR15 section that debates the differences of various optics down to different reticle shapes and colors in the same optic. Hanging out there and searching/reading would be a good way to reach more specific answers on sights.

Get some pics for us Moondoggie
