Ok, someone mentioned that the Saunders would be a good slingshot for customizing. I happen to have one lying around.

The Saunders has a lot of advantages:

- Inexpensive (16 dollars)
- Quick band change
- Flat bands
- Great pouch

But it also has some disadvantages.

- High fork
- Small, thin, unergonomic handle

So I set out to correct the fork height and also to make a new ergo handle for it. My goal was to make this reversible, at least the handle change.

So I started by disassembling the slingshot.

Then I clamped the fork arms into the vise and lowered them from 5 cm to 3 cm.

Then I sawed out two handle parts, front and back, with the finger and thumb grooves already outlined.

Next, I put in a groove for the steel frame.

The two halves already fit in this picture! But of course the handle was far from finished at that point.

Sawed out a piece of multiplex for the palm swell, "Baumstamm style".

After lots of rasp and file work, the handle was shaped and sanded, ready for some color.

Then, I died it in blue, came out almost purple.

Have now finished it. Added nice poly coating, sanded and spraypainted the fork, and outfitted it with TB gold, 2 layers, 18 cm active band length, 2,4 cm (fork), 1,5 cm (pouch). This is the toughest band I could attach without altering the original band holders. Much more power than the original Saunders bands.

Here is the video!

It's now a much better slingshot, and of course one of a kind.

Right-on joe !!!

That is one rocking slingshot. Maybe you have just opened a new business venture. Buy 6 slingshots, trick them out in different colors & post for sale on this forum. Bet they would sell like hot-cakes @ $40.00 each !!! Give it some thought.

40 bucks? should sell for that - problem is he has to buy the material to build the slingshot - 16 bucks for the sling shot plus tax - then buy the wood plus the cost of shipping the wood - pay th power bill in the shop - you know lights - sanders - sanding equipment - sand paper - finishing supplies etc - add a little labor - couple bucks for profit - it just might come in a little over 40 bucks! ask a pistol grip maker to build a set of custom grips for 40 bucks. you get the idea -

Mr. Hudson

Please read my memo again to this gentleman. My purest intent was to encourage him if so chose to do so, the $40.00 was merely a numerical figure which popped into my 60 year old ministroke afflicted brain.

I am a college graduate & well aware of the cost of doing business, related to future economic projected costs both direct & indirect, related to the designing, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, warehousing, & shipping those products for sale to the global market place.

I think the slingshot looks awesome. Love the video too. I never knew they could do so much damage to a coconut. Next time I see a riot on the news and I see kids with slingshots I'll know they mean business!

Hey, thanks for the encouragement, but I have great job and my income is fine. Slingshots are my hobby, which I really enjoy, and I have no plans to spoil the fun with taxes, customer complaints and deadlines. Besides, my employment contract does not allow any side occupations.

a real sling is far more effective. two 3 foot nylon cords with a leather eliptical shaped cradle that holds your rock, just like what David used to topple Goliath. Its so light and compact you'll forget its in your pocket. Will toss a stone much further than your rubber :D

True, lots of power. But I can not hit anything with a David sling. It takes a huge amount of practice to be accurate. And even then you may never get as accurate with it as you can with a slingshot.

Beautiful job, I notice you have a scar on the palm of your left hand, I have one in the same place, and it was really hard to sew it up myself one-handed.
