I've been taking Modern Arnis classes for some time now, and I've decided that I want a live blade that fits in with this martial art.

The Pinuti seems to fit my style better than a Bolo or a Barong, as I tend to thrust as often as I slash. I guess it's just my prior fencing experience showing through.

Anyway, Kris Cutlery and Valiant both offer Pinutis at comparable prices, the Valiant having a better sheath for a slightly higher price. My concern is with the blade and hilt.

Does anyone know if one is better than the other?

Thanks.

With a name like Skofnung, I'd suggest this:

But....... since you asked specifically, I'd go for the Kris Cutlery pinuti. I have only read great things about it, and my experiences with KC sword blades have all been positive.

Yhea, don't think for a minute that I won't have a pattern welded Type VI or a Migration Type I at some point... There's a very good local swordsmith that I'll get to do it if I ever get enough mad money to do so. Who made that one?

I've handled products from both and both are excellent so it's just a question of what you like the feel and look of best. I will say that the new Cas Iberia Fillipino line is excellent. They're using L6 steel built into solid weapons instead of wall hangers. The company took a big step into expanding their MA weapons last year and have very seriously moved to produce real weapons for real use.

Skofnung, that's a Vince Evans piece. I've owned a number of Viking era swords but nothing that compares to that level of craftsmanship.

I'm impressed that CAS Iberia is marketing L6 steel weapons. I don't use swords any longer but I'd love to see what's new in the industry.

Hmmm, I wasn't aware of the CAS Iberia line... Would you consider it to be superior to Kris or Valiant?

Please note that I plan on using this thing for real cutting, as in pool noodles, mats, and in the unlikley event that I am without a firearm and it is nearby, self defense in extremis.

Thanks for the help.

I'll let you know after next weekend since I'll see them at the Blade Show in Atlanta. I expect them to be a notch above the other 2.

No joy!

CAS is going to be bought by Paul Chen and the entire booth was set up to display the Japanese and Chinese works. Not a single FMA item in sight!!!:fire:
