i might pick up another AK parts kit for a pistol caliber build.. still not sure if i want to do this or not but im looking to explore options

what id like is something like the PP-19 bizon.. however, im fairly certain i cannot find those magazines, i mean, i doubt anyone makes them so obviously i'll have to find another magazine to use... and im not sure i want to go with 9mm.. i really like the 7.62x25mm as a PDW cartridge, and this cartridge, like the AK, also has russian roots (even though they copied the germans)

i thought about going with a PPSH-41 build, but the kits i found just about everything you actually needed off the kit was destroyed... the barrel, shroud, upper receiver, even the trunnion and the few parts that werent destroyed are the ones youd have to replace or could easily fabricate yourself, so these PPSH-41 kits are essentially pointless

so theoretically would it be possible using an AK-74 front trunnion, to shorten the overall length of the receiver, rivet or weld on a PPSH-41 magazine well, and shorten the stroke of the action.. overall length would be the same, weight would be less.. but could a 7.62x25mm cartridge actually cycle an AK action?...

im debating whether i should do this, or see if i can actually find a PPSH-41 barrel, upper receiver, trunnion, and go the PPSH-41 route instead?

I've seen an AR in 7.62x25 that had an extremely short gas system so that there was still enough pressure to cycle. It used some sort of Czech submachine gun magazine

so then, i guess the AK conversion would be quite doable.. for the most part.. probably have to find some way of attaching a PPSH-41 magazine.. i actually have a 3D engineering model of both the AKM and the PPSH.. so i could probably design a magwell i could tig-weld to the custom AK receiver... shorten the action up as well, as it doesnt need to recoil so far back anymore.. probably keep the same overall length of the receiver so theres no issue with cramping the trigger group, and so the stock doesnt become too short

If the head of the cartridge you want to use is 0.3" and the operating pressure is 25k you've got ~1700 lbs of force to operate your action. I suspect you're going to need more bolt mass than a AK has to slow the bolt opening down enough that the pressure doesn't rupture the cartridge case.
