Hi, I am looking to buy a can in .45, .40, and 9mm. What cans should I buy for those calibers. I want the quietest suppressor available. I don't care so much about weight as I want it to be quiet. I already own an integral 9mm AR and it is very quiet and I've shot other suppressors so I already know that the Hollywood quiet is not possible.

The Tirant and the Osprey seem like the top two pistol cans. Are there any that are better? Which one would you pick? Please let me know. Thanks!

SWR Octane .45.

It's arguably quieter than the TiRant and the click together baffle stack makes it even easier to clean.

Just my opinion.

Yes, I've heard of the Octane too. Also, are there any thread pitches that are more preferred or more common than others?

You match the threads in the can to what's on the barrel, and many (most?) cans have replaceable threaded inserts for their suppressors so you can use the same suppressor for several pistols

The TiRant and Osprey are both very good cans. Of the two I would probably lean towards the TiRant just because I prefer a symmetrical/cylindrical can, but that's purely an aesthetic issue (unless you're trying to fit the can underneath AR hand guards). I've heard really good things about the Octane, and would definitely look into that, as well as the Liberty Mystic.

Depending on how much you want to spend, you could use a .45 can for all three calibers, or use dedicated cans for each (though I don't belie there are many .40 cal cans out there). A .45 can will do a good job suppressing 9mm, but a dedicated 9mm can will still be quieter if you're looking for maximum suppression.

Thread wise, I can only really speak to 9mm, but 1/2 x 28 TPI seems to be the standard in the US. 13.5 x 1 LH is another prevalent 9mm thread pitch witch is mainly seen on European weapons (Sig and HK factory threaded barrels are both in this thread pitch). The good news is that all of the cans mentioned use boosters which allow you to change the thread pitch by swapping a part in the can, so you can buy one can (with a stamp) and several boosters (no stamp required) and be able to put your can on as many different threaded barrels as you want. I would however try to pick one thread pitch and standardize on it so that there's less to worry about while you're at the range.

Also, it is hard to find some pistols threaded in certain thread pitches (for instance, a Sig 228 barrel in 1/2x28) without paying an ungodly sum of money, so that's something to look into depending on what guns you want to suppress.

I went with the Osprey for the shape and performance of the can. I really like how it sits low and for the most part out of the way of the sights. I got the .45 can and found it works really well with 9mm too.

The SWR Octane45 is superior in every way.

I hope you are right, I bought one in July, hopefully I'll get it before next July :(

I've been very happy with my Osprey 45 shooting both .45 & 9mm although its not very practical to shoot 9mm & .45 in the same session.

I wanted something that came apart for cleaning so I could use it with cheap hard cast lead bullets.

Echo RussB's suggestion on the AAC can. The Ti-Rant .45 (not the .45s btw, it's a bit too small IMHO) can go ".45 and down" with a thread pitch adapter. I use it for multiple pistols (my Glock 30, Springfield 1911, SIG 9mm, etc.). Plus you can actually clean it. I also use it on my HK USC. Butter.
