I have a new GSG 1911-22 which operates far from flawlessly, but I have pretty well determined that Aguila high velocity, plated, round nose ammo shoots okay from it. Not perfectly, mind you, but okay for now. I figure there is break in time to deal with and some other shake-out issues until the gun is fully reliable. I should mention that the weight of the slide is considered an important variable is reliability of this gun, and I am running a very lightweight red dot sight on the slide. Maybe that is the source of my issues. We shall see bye and bye.

Meanwhile I upset the whole apple cart by buying and installing the TandemKross accurizing and upgrade kit for the gun consisting of a tight barrel bushing, one piece, full length guide rod, tapered recoil spring cap, etc. I tested out the modified gun at the range today with Remington Golden Bullet 1255 fps ammo and also the Aguila 1250 fps stuff. The Remington were so-so, but at least every chambered round fired when struck by the firing pin. Not so for the Aguila. About 1/3 of the cartridges wouldn’t fire on the first strike. I was really annoyed since the Aguila was bought from a different source than previously. I hate two variables operating together. You never know what’s what. Did the upgrade parts cause the gun to malfunction. Unlikely, but still you never know.

So I went home and retrieved the original parts and took everything back to the range with some of the original batch of Aguila ammo. Three different configurations all functioned fine: original, upgraded and upgraded with compensator. So I guess it was bad ammo the first time. Time will tell I suppose. It is a shame though, because that Aguila is the cheapest 1250 or greater fps .22LR I can find.

What do you guys say?

Ammo. Any .22 LR firearm will have it's favorites, and ones it will not like. You just have to find out which. .22 Match shooters are known to try many different loads, find what's best for their gun, and buy up as much of that lot as they can afford.

I agree with entropy, it's likely the ammo. 22s are notoriously finicky, so maybe try other ammo variants. BTW, "Fed Red" at WallyWorld, 36gr, CPHP, 1260fps, < 4cpr. Cheep stuff, shoots pretty good, mostly I use it for plinking. My goto cheep stuff is Blazers.
