Hello, I'm always on the rifle forum, and it's my first venture here. If you've responded to death to questions like this, just send me a hate-gram and I'll grind through the search engine.

I have a Sig 226 Equinox. Came with beautiful grips ( as it should for that money), but the screws kept coming lose every time I'm at the range. I just bought a set of Hogue (sp?) grips and the instructions said use the lock washers and screws from the factory grips for the replacement grips. Well mine didn't have lock washers, which I know, makes perfect sense. Anybody know if it really shoud have? Seems logical. I found some lock washers that fit, and used them, but I wanted to pick some brains.

BTW, I cannot be more impressed with the engineering behind these new grips. They fit perfect without even the slighest gap or mis-match. Now they're nowhere as pretty on my Equinox, but they sure fit the hand and the gun like a glove.
 
My Sigs all have lock washers. Funny though, Sig sells parts kits that come with 4 grip screws and no washers. Go figure. I've used Loctite (blue) to secure grip screws, but you've found some lock washers. Go for it. That Equinox is a nice pistola.
 
Looks like they missed the washers when they put the gun together. And after 5 years, I never knew it. Just kept tighenting them. The new hogue grips and lock washers worked great today. Ran 50 rounds through it. Felt great, no loosing issues. Love having that off my mind.
 
I carry a P-220 for duty and own other Sig's of my own. Yes...get the lock washers. If you don't then often times the screws will set too far into the mag well and affect the way the mag seats in, sometimes almost impossible and will "scrape" the side of the mags. The lock washer really provides two functions by locking the screw and also keeping the spacing accurate (for lack of a better description). If you do use loctite then make sure you clean any excess from inside the mag well before it dries. Let it dry completely before inserting a mag. Good luck!!
 
Sorry to raise this from last year, but...

My grips come loose too with the standard plastic grips. no lock washers.

Are any good old fashioned lock washers from home depot going to work (provided they fit?) or do I need to get special tiny ones from sigs CS?

that's probably what Im looking for! I didn't see any on that site for a 226 though...
 
There are lock-washers, and there are lock-washers, and then there are SIG lock-washers.

Common hardware store ones are single flat spring with one gap in the end.
They are not good for pistol grips atall.

The other hardware store lock-washer is a flat spring steel thing like a star.
That might work if they will fit in the grip screw recesses.

Then there are SIG lock-washers and we know they are the right size and spring tension.

I'd get the real thing!

Just got off the phone with Sig, they said they don't have lock washers to sell to me, but recommend BLUE loctite.

FYI.
 
Some of the P series come with the lock washers and some don't. My 220 has the metal washers. My 245, 239, and 229R did not. I recently bought a set of the SIG slim grips for my 220. The washers prevented my from being able to tighten the grip screws all the way down. So I used a method I used before on some 1911 thing grips tht came with grip screws that were two long. I went to the local hardware store and got some tiny O rings that are used for plumbing applications.
I matched a set of them up with the holes in the grips. Put them in, tightened them down, no more problem. The rubber rings kept the screws from going too far into the grip. And the rubber rings absorbs the shock to the grip screws upon firing. This eliminated the grip screws from coming loose ever again. A very cheap solution. Also Houge makes some Hex head grip screws that I put in my 239 that don't work loose like the factory ones. And I got an E2 grip kit for my 229 that got rid of grip screws. Each one works. Hope this helps.
 
None of my Sigs (more than a few) have ever had a lock washer. My newer ones have a bit of Locktite on the ends of the screws though.
