Pistol in Backpack Without CCP? (UT)

Is it considered carrying concealed to have a pistol in a backpack, where one would have to remove the backpack to reach the pistol, when in Utah. Could anyone point me to the relevant law that law that defines what concealed carry is and is not in Utah?

I didn't read the laws but in many states what your are describing would be illegal.

I did google it, but I was unsure of what would be considered "readily accessible for immediate use" (http://www.le.utah.gov/code/TITLE76/htm/76_10_050100.htm). Probably should just get a CWP to make sure I stay on the right side of the law.

By all means, get your concealed carry permit. It keeps you out of a lot of iffy situations.

If you put your unloaded firearm in your backpack, and put your backpack on the seat beside you, and drive past a public school, you've committed a felony, unless you have a concealed carry permit. If you're in Utah and have the permit, you can load your firearm, put it in the backpack, and legally carry it into the school

There are other situations where your carry permit keeps you out of legal difficulties.

Yes, get the permit. It is well worth it.
