Pistol optics. What do you have, and how well does it work?

Just posted this Friday evening on Wilson
Combat video site:

"Evolution of Pistol Sights"

Much of the discussion centers around
the red dot sights and how useful
they are or not.

I found the minis very difficult to acquire rapidly, but the tube type red dots (UltraDot 30) come up fast and the dot is there every time. My take is that your peripheral vision lines up the tube as you bring up the gun; with the minis I just have to move my wrist around until the dot shows up. The UltraDots also seem to be impervious to recoil. I've had no problem with 340s at 1450 in my Casull.

SIG Bravo Zulu (factory installed)--it's been quite nice for me.
Some adjustment to get used to using the dot, and not the visual center of the sight (and, really, there's not that much difference at micro-compact sorts of engagement distances).

One of my common EDC pistols has a Holosun 507c on top. The green reticle is much nicer to my astigmatism than red. The solar panel and shake awake feature greatly increase the battery life. It will turn 2 years old this coming February on the same battery.

Vortex Venom on a Buck Mark, Bushnell TRS-25 on a Beretta. Both work fine for what they are but as I am more accustomed to tube style RDSs the Bushnell is faster on target for me as well. More practice helps and I take the Browning every range day for shooting between (rifle) groups.

Just some of the red dots I’ve mounted…

Red dots have exploded in popularity at work. Our red dot certification class completely fills up within an hour of it getting posted. The Holosun 507 and 508 are the most popular with the Trijicon RMR being used a lot as well. The 509T and the ACRO are becoming more popular as well. The 509T more so. There are a few Leupold DPP, Vortex, and Sig optics out there but are having higher rates of breaking. They are becoming less popular.

Ive been running a RMR on my Gen 5 Glock for a little over a year now. Its been awesome. Speed and accuracy have increased, especially at distance.

Here is a buddies Sig P320 duty gun. Since the picture he has switched to a Holosun because of the previously mentioned durability issues. That is a sweet shooting gun.

I like the Romeo Red Dot on My P365
Took a clip to get dialed into My point of view. But after quite a few rounds through it I hit what I’m aiming at.

OP, the above is near pinnacle of reliability for a working combo, if that’s what you’re interested in. There are more refined pistols out there I suppose, but that’s a workhorse that also runs.

We have similar tastes. I had a TRS25 on my Buckmark for years, after 9 years it finally gave me a hiccup on the range last month so I used the opportunity to swap out the picatinny rail for a lower mount Venom. So far I'm torn, I'm finding it a tad harder to acquire the dot but that might just be muscle memory from the TRS25 which sat higher. The biggest issue is the 3moa dot on the vortex seems a heck of a lot larger than the 3moa dot on the Bushnell.
