I just picked up a ParaOrd GI Expert and the finish is less than optimum  . I am thinking of a refinish, and the usual suspects are all lined up, but I am wondering if anyone has ever used Brownell's AlumaHyde II to finish a firearm. I have used it for fiberglass stocks with complete success, and it has never flaked/peeled/thinned or otherwise been damaged by any solvents normally used on rifles (mine is an M14 semi). I look at that can on the shelf & wonder if it's worth the effort to clean the metal & try it - anybody have any experience? I would dance at your wedding for your input... ;)
Cheers,
George J.

Just make sure that you clean the metal of all oil ( chemically clean) and then
blast it with aluminum oxide ( 120 grit ) or it will flake and peel off.

The "paint" type finishes like Aluma-Hyde will not be AS durable as when used on a rifle or shotgun.
This is due to the higher abrasion of the finish due to handling and holstering.

Because of that a handgun will show wear faster and over a wider area than a long gun.
Still, it makes a good do it yourself gun finish.

I have used AlumaHyde and it wears about like cold blue. But it looks good for a little while.
