Well, it's Friday, I cashed my paycheck, sold a car today, and am stoked about the big gun show tomorrow. I've budgeted $600 for this show. So, I come to you gentlemen for advice. I'm in the market for a 9mm handgun. New or used. What should I look for that will offer me the best bang for my buck?

I've already got a number of revolvers, and this will be my first automatic. I already stock 9mm ammo for one of my carbines, so it's a logical choice for a handgun. Anyway, what do you guys think? Don't try talking me out of 9! ;)

Anyway, this isn't going to be a primary CCW piece, but a fun gun that will be shot. Maybe carried on occasions when weather permits coats. Thanks! :)

Another vote for the Glock 17 or 19 (personally, I prefer the latter). Simple, easy to operate, and feeds anything.

If you want to go up-market from there, I strongly recommend the SIG line of pistols: but you'll pay a couple hundred more for one.

Glocks have always seemed like a fun gun. I've shot a few, just never owned. So what is the difference between the 17 and 19?

Additionally, what would a used Sig series pistol run me?

The 19 is a slightly smaller version of the 17.

You could also go for a Sig P228. I think it's in the $500 range. Might even be able to get you a Certified Pre-Owned model.

I know you said you're going to the gunshow but if you can wait to buy online, check out: http://www.ordnanceoutsellers.com/index.htm

You're better off calling and speaking to them because their website isn't as up to date as their inventory shows.

Just bought a P229 off them, should be here next week. It was $470 for a Certified Pre-Owned by Sig.

The model 17 is more a full size duty weapon with a 4.5" barrel and the 19 is a smaller compact version with a 4" barrel. The 17 will accept 10rd or 17rd mags and the 19 while its mag is a little shorter will accept a 10rd or 15rd mag. For concealment the 19 is the way to go. Both are good at the range. :)

Easy choices...
Glock 17, Glock 19 or Glock 26.
I can speak for the 19 and 26, but do not own a 17.
The 26 has done the best for me so far.
The Springfield Armory XD9 is also in this price range.
I've had a thought or two about the Baby Eagles too, but never handled one.
Don't forget the CZ's either. I hear they are well made.

CZ 75B, I am totally in love with it. (Haven't owned or fired one yet, though.)
The Beretta Model 92 is accurate and enjoyable to fire, but a bit out of your price range.
Never heard a bad word about a BHP, but hard to get for the price, I think.
Nothing wrong with a Glock, either.

I am not a 9mm fan by any means, but I wouldn't try talk anyone out of it.

You could get a 1911 chambered in 9mm...

For your money, I say CZ or Glock.

Thanks for the input guys. Soon as I get out of work i'm on my way. I'll have to take a close look at Glocks. Maybe i'll find a gem, though, of a highend handgun that's being let go for a lowball price.

G19 would be a real good choice and you should have some $$ left over for a holster and maybe a spare mag or 2.

$600..hmmmm

look for Glock 17, 19 or 34
Sig 226
Cz75b, SP01 or P01
Springfield 9mm loaded
Beretta 92

wow..this is fun..wish I could go...

Xd9 Series

I would look at the Springfield Armory XD series. Three choices of size / barrel length and caliber. Compact 3†in 9mm & 40 cal S&W. Service 4†in 9mm, 40 cal S&W, and 45 gap.. Tatical 5†in 9mm, 40 cal S&W, and 45 gap. ;)

If I had $600 to spend on a 9mm and it didn't have to be for CCW, I would look for a Beretta Elite model. I have seen them for that price and IMHO, it is one of the best looking full size 9mms. I passed on a few Elites before I knew what they were, one of them was LNIB with hi-caps (before the ban sunset) for only $475 from my local dealer! :( I wish I couls go back in time and buy that gun!

Browning High Power.

I have a basic Argentinian FM, a BHP made under license. It's got a great feel and shoots well. Lots of cheap 13 round mags still available too.

I also have a BHP Practical on layaway now. I like the looks better and it'll take the same mags as my Argentine.

I've shot other nines, but like the BHP best.

If I had $600 to spend on a new 9mm it would be a Glock 19.

If they still have any, the $399 FN Hi Power from cdnninvestments.com is the best deal going right now. More than a steal. :what:

Deez.

If it fits your hand right, Beretta 92. Especially if it is just for carry and not for shooting. It's ergonomics are perfect for me.
