Rumor, now appearing in some gun mags, has it that FNH is going to stop producing HPs. They may already have done so for the .40 S&Ws, as some dealers say they've been unable to fill special orders for more than a year. The 9mm HPs should be pretty easy to find, but you need to watch GunBroker, GunsAmerica, Bud's, Cabella's (and others) for high-quality .40s. I've gotten several of the latter, some for higher-than-average $$, some for less.

What magazines?

This rumor has been bouncing around the internet for more than four or five years. Gun shop commandos love nothing better than giving "insider" information to a customer. Just because a local gunstore can't get a Hi Power from one of his distributors doesn't equate to the HP going out of production.

I just checked two of my most used distributors- both had Hi Powers in stock.

I should have made it clear that the unavailable, perpetually-back-ordered BHPs I was referring to are the .40 S&Ws. Even local Browning dealers here with 9mm Mk IIIs and Standards in stock told me I'd be better off going to gun shows and checking the internet for the 40s.

From Rob Garret's article about a Heirloom Precision 9mm BHP in the "Custom Combat Handguns" magazine on the newsstands right now: "At this writing, there is a rumor Browning will be discontinuing the Hi-Power. I hate to hear that and hope they will reconsider. Should you see a Hi-Power at your local dealer, you may want to pick it up, just in case."
