So i'm planning on picking up my newly purchased CPO SIG 229 .40. My problem is, I just got my wisdom teeth pulled this morning. The only drugs they have me taking are 600mg ibuprofen. is there anything that will stop me from doing some target practice and burning through 100 rounds?

If you can drive a car you shouldn't have any problem shooting a handgun. A rifle or shotgun would have the possibility of slapping you up beside the jaw and that probably wouldn't be good.

If I am not feeling completely and totally there mentally, I do not go shooting.

I take 800mg ibuprofen for my back. It really doesn't interfere with shooting. They (the VA) were giving me the 600mg dose, but they didn't even make a dent. Just don't drink any thing with alcohol; which I know you wouldn't do anyway since you're going to the range. :)
And be sure and follow the directions on your meds; ibuprofen can really screw up your stomach if you take it without eating something.

If it was me and I had to drive two hours to go shooting after recent wisdom tooth surgery I would stay home. My rationale is that after driving two hours I'd probably feel compelled to do a bit of shooting to get my gas money's worth even if I didn't quite feel up to more than emptying a mag or two once I got there. This isn't about the ibuprofen, but about recovering from recent wisdom tooth surgery.

If the range was just on the other side of town, no problem.

Having said this, I had a really awful time when the pulled my wisdom teeth. The gout I have had wins as far as sheer pain, but the wisdom tooth pain lasted much, much longer. To this date, I can't think of a medical procedure that I have disliked more then the wisdom tooth extraction.

i'm actually not in any pain or discomfort in the least bit, i feel great. i even went down to the work shop tonight to help a friend start painting a car, which we're going to be finishing tomorrow. i'm going to be making a two hour drive on sunday regardless, as i have to be back to college for classes on monday. my dealers house is about a half hour detour off the highway i ride back to school, so its not far out of the way.

Ibuprofen is just an anti-inflammatory. It shouldn't make any difference unless you're allergic to it. You'd know that by now.

I took so many 800 mg Ibuprofen for my bad back I can't take them anymore. It really screwed up my stomach. (Yes, I followed the Doctor's instructions) Too many doses over too many years...

Was it "surgery" or just an extraction?

I ask because when I had my wisdom(s) out, I was out and about all weekend, no big deal. But they were just extracted, pretty simple, 20 minutes in and out.

Anyway, my vote, always, if I'm in the area and have the time, go shoot. You'll be fine. Just as cautioned, avoid the long guns for a week or so.

Oh, and congrats on the Sig!
