Oh Hi Oh
Can someone explain how the de-cocker works on a Walther P99c with the AS trigger configuration? I've seen P99c pistols with the other configurations but have never had my hands on an AS model. I'm told it takes 2 hands to de-cock the gun. Is this correct?

I've looked at the info on the Walther web site but am not understanding how the de-cocker is configured.

Thanks

The decocker is a large, flush-mounted button on top of the slide, off-center to the left. I shoot right-handed and find it very convenient to use my left hand thumb to decock.

I definitely prefer the AS decocker location to the high & rearward slide-mount safety on my S&W 3rd gen pistol.

I can decock with my strong hand thumb if I want, but I see no need to. Decocking isn't something that needs to be done under stress or in a hurry.

Past that its really just about your standard traditional double action pistol. Chamber a round, decock. Your first shot is double action, the rest are single action. Think like a sig if you're familiar with those.

i circled the de-cocker on a picture i have.
im lefty and i like where it is. no problem with it.

FWIW:

I'm a lefty and the unique position of the Walther P99c/AS decocker is very easy for me to access and depress.. I just reach over the top rear of the pistol with my right thumb and depress it.. No problem, and in fact easier than using the decocker on my Sig P239. It certainly does not require two hands. (And I'm a senior citizen so my hand strength is not that great..)

If you haven't purchased a P99c/AS yet I think you will be in for more pleasant surprises than the easy to use decocker.. The P99cAS has the best out of the box trigger (striker) I've ever seen.. The slide is easily released with one hand (my Sig takes two), the red chamber loaded indicator and visible cocked indicator are super touches.. Some folks have criticized the location and type ambi mag release, but I love it.. My trigger finger naturally falls to the depress location and it works perfectly for my needs. The mags are drop free, the pistol is "drop safe", the pistol has a fantastic quick trigger reset, and I love the options of DA/SA/Long trigger SA..

I've had firearms for over 50 years and I can honestly say that the Walther P99cAS is without a doubt the overall best "package" I've ever seen in a pistol.. The fact that the inherent out of the box accuracy is fantastic is the icing on the cake.

Getcha' one! (I'm saving for another one...);)

i'm lefty and the decocker is a little awkard but doable. I reach of with my right thumb and decock or otherwise point the pistol "Ghetto style" with the decocker facing up and decock. Got a p99dao and p99AS. these guns are amazingly accurate even the dao is accurate. I would carry the dao but I live in New Jersey where only criminals can use guns. Personally the walthers beat glock and are on par with the Hks.

Forgot - Walther has a decocker indicator that you can feel and see. If the indicator is out you are in double action mode. If the indicator, which is red, is in you're in single action mode.

Service?

Thanks for all the great info.

If the need arises who services the P99c; Walter or S&W?

Thanks

S & W. My warranties included in the purchase were with S & W. Though made by Walther they are serviced by S & W. Just a note - mine were made in Germany and you can tell by looking for the "N" on the frame. Google "Walther" and you'll get an excellent website run by a Dr. Lund. It has excellent information and READ it before you purchase. You really want the German made product. S & W is great for their revolvers ( I have two) but when it comes to making automatic killing pistols the Germans still take the cake as they have been doing longer than everyone else. (just kidding as I like German people).

Thanks ModifiedBrowning.

That's what I get for not shooting enough. My hat's off to you in the BIG SKY county.

SW:

Actually I hear a "hard chrome slide" calling me... :D

I wish you would quit posting those pretty pictures of your three hard chromed Walther P99's..

And I don't usually even LIKE shiny pistols...

Best Wishes,

JP
