Fisrt question: What does "FOV Field of View" actually mean?

Example: FOV @ 100 yds (ft): 16.1@6x /5.92@18x
(Nikon Buckmasters) 6-18x40

Im sure this is a basic question, but need imput on a $300.00 scope for a Rem. 700 .308 22 inch barrel. Looking for plinking and long range 4-600 meter shots.

I like: Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40 SF Riflescope @ Aprx $350.00
Bushnell Trophy 6-18x40 Riflescope @ Aprx $ 189.00

My budget is limited bc I picked up an amazing buy (almost perfect cond. Rem 700, but my wife doesnt see it that way) So Im stuck around the 300 range (less $ would be best), but not looking to sacrifice quality. Any ideas would help and I trust High Road for the direction. Thank you.

What FOV means is you can see 16.1 feet at 6 power, at 100 yards, but, if you crank up the power to 18 power, you will only see 5.92 feet.
If the scope is clear, and the image is sharp to you, that's what's most important, regardless of brand.
My Remington 700 varmint wears a Leupold 8.5-25, but, I actually got a really good deal on the scope and then HAD to buy the rifle to put under it.

what dan said, 300 is not a lot of money to spend on a scope. within that budget, the Tasco SS is pretty much the only way to go. Try the classifieds here on THR and those of Sniper's Hide, Sniper's Paradise, Sniper Country, ar15.com. Failing that gunbroker has some for $250. If you need it ASAP swfa.com is the way to go.

It feels weird recommending anything from Tasco, but Dan is right. For the money and for the need it sounds like you have, the Tasco Super Sniper is a great value for the scope.

When your budget opens up someday, you can always upgrade to a higher quality scope.

Check out this guy's scopes. I know a lot of them are refurbs. I bought a Nikon Monarch Gold refurb for $200 less than a new one and have been thrilled with it.

If you are on a $300 budget, this is the best way to get the most bang for the buck. Plus, refurbs are still under warranty.

Good luck.
